Hey guys I know this has probably been brought up before but somehow the plastic on my speedometer cluster is all scratched up! Don't ask me how but it happended and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to get rid of them? I was thinking about wet sanding it and I do not want to replace the whole plastic. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the club, scratched the shit out of mine after a week when I got dust all over it and wiped it off with a cloth.

Meguiars PlastX made most of it go away. To do it completely right you'll have to remove the piece (but I mean might as well just replace it at that point). I left mine in and did what I could.

Now I only clean it off with a swifter duster. No issues since doing that.

I agree, I got what I could but I'll buy a spare and just replace in the future if I go to sell the truck or if it gets really bad. Seriously it will be impossible to keep it from scratching. And forget it if you ever let anyone else clean the interior of your truck.

i had a post made for this exact issue. mine was scratched to hell after a month of owning the truck.

im waiting for it to get worse before replacing it.

im trying to find a company that makes a big enough screen protector for it.

anyone know where i can get a roll of screen protector film?

Wouldn't clear 3M vinyl do the trick? It's not like you're touching it to interface with a screen so this should be fine: https://www.amazon.com/Scotchgard-C...qid=1484770818&sr=8-2&keywords=3M+clear+vinyl

    A few....
Mine did the same..... It was dirty and I used a little 303 on a nice clean pad and it looks like a kid took rocks to it....

I owned a detail shop for a few years and never saw anything like it. Glad to know its only $22....

$22 for the same P.O.S. that they gave us when the made the truck, no thanks. I have NEVER cleaned mine with anything but Harley Gloss that is made for Lexan Windshields and a micro fiber towel. It looks like i tossed a belt sander up there and then took a nap for an hour or so. Crawls my ass every time the sun hits it. (the dash, not my ass).

It's less than half the cost of a tank of gas. Replace it every year if it's that bothersome. That's the solution.

There's an old model makers trick using toothpaste to remove scratches from clear molded plastic parts from model kits....for what it's worth...

And dashboards never rattle or anything once you take them apart. Funny, i didn't see dash glass replacement in the maintenance schedule either. Nor have i had this problem in any of the other 15 vehicles I've owned in my life.

It's not a deal breaker man, it's the point. Toyota.... Legendary Quality.... SLIPPING. $35k+ for a mid sized truck should relieve you of having to replace cheapo shit annually. My $.02

I mentioned that before.. Wish in one hand and shit in the other I guess.
OP, as said before, I also mention it in my trim video. Pop off the trim and take plastx to the cluster. Use a left and right, up and down motion. I say take the trim off so you can get all the edges for a clean look.

Dash trim isn't put together magically...taking the trim off the bezel should not result in any noises and damaging your vehicle due to improper care for the materials used is not generally something that does make it on a maintenance schedule. Not sure what other 15 vehicles you've owned, but I replaced it twice on my frontier, several other nissans had the issue. Many vehicles have the soft plastic and care should be taken using a separate clean rag to avoid scratching. Some you may not notice thanks to the design of the cluster and light not hitting it as easily.

The 35k truck argument is so weak. This is a 24k truck. You optioned it up to be 35k but that doesn't mean they are going to just start throwing out parts that helped make a truck 24k base price. It's a cheap truck and for being as cheap as it is, it's made pretty darn well compared to the others in the price range.

Only if it wasn't a crapton of orange peel.

Four months in and mine's still fine. I have some super soft microfiber towels, I also have some cheap-ass rough microfiber towels. Guess which gets used? Gently. After a blast of air.

If it gets messed up and it annoys me I'll replace it. Not worth carrying around a buttload of angst over. My funcar, if I'd bought it new instead of used, costs a hell of a lot more than this truck... and guess what, it has some stupid design choices too. I deal with what is and don't get worked up about some perception of "should be".

I've got a small pile of stuff living under the trip reset button poking through the lens from this method. LOL
