Tire/Wheel combo questions, looking for insight

Hey guys,

Got my 01 Tacoma back in November of 08, loving every moment with it.

Its about that time to replace the tires, and I decided why not do the wheels as well.

I know the stock tires are BFG's Rugged Trail 265/70/16, and I was going to bump it to the same tire in a 265/65/17 size.

Hours of looking at magazines for wheels trying to find the ones I like, and I've come across these: V-Tec Raptor

The guy at a tire shop said I may have some problems with the offset of the rim, which stands at +25 for that wheel.

What are you guy's views? Would I be able to run that combo without rubbing or interference?

I am on stock suspension, and I have seen the "Largest Tire Sizes on Stock Suspension" thread, and also see it says the largest size for me would be 265/75/16.

Any and all insight/advice is appreciated, looking forward to learning lots from you guys!

 

keep reading...you're new and it will help you a lot to search to find some of your answers. FWIW, I've been reading on this particular subject for a month now and rarely stumble across the same information twice.

 

That wheel is a 16x8 with +25 offset, which equates to 5.5" backspacing.

The stock wheels are 5.25" BS if i recall correctly. The wheel you are looking at is also slightly wider than stock, so I think you'd be cutting it close. Probably better off with a different rim.

I went down to Americas Tire today, and talked to one of the managers there. Just so happens he had the 17x8 Raptors there at the store, and we threw some 265/65/17 BFG Rugged Trails onto one and threw it onto the truck.

Checked the spacings, everything is good. He also said he had put these rims onto another truck as well with no problem and wanted to know the name of the associate that told me they would not work with this truck.

Everything is getting finalized on Friday, I will for sure post some pics for you guys to look at!
