So the 05-06 Tacomas are breaking frames at the drivers side engine perch for the mount. Did one yesterday and its not an easy job. Here are some before and after of the drivers side.

Before, over 1/2" pushed in and frame completely torn!

Tac welded it after pulling it out..

Not much space in there I must say.

DMZ fab makes a great set, thats what I used in the pic. its 2 pieces for drivers side and 1 for passenger. Should make it very strong as this one was really bad since the mount was almost ripped completely off.

No I didn't need to get them gusseted, and you'll be fine with the stock mounts, honestly, it all really depends on what your gonna be doing with your truck. if you're always Jumping and driving it really hard then I'd get the gussets or the solid mounts but if not you'll be fine. My truck has been LT for a long everything is still in great shape. Knock on wood.

That's because the factory beefed them up or at least has better welds starting sometime in 07. My 05 had the chimpy shit and ones on the 08 are better.

A quote from the beginning of this thread............."I have been inspecting mine from time to time (2007), and it seems on my frame where the mounts are, there is a gusset inbetween the mount and the frame. Its a much more "beeft" design than whats on the '05 frames, so it leads me to think Toyota or Dana corp (who makes the Tacoma frame) caught the problem an quietly fixed the issue."

Replacing everything worn, broken, and rusted.
Just a quick thanks to all who posted here. Bought my truck in Feb and had no idea about the failing mounts. I knew the frame was serviced by Toyota in 2015 but didn't know much more. Got up under there this am and was relieved to see they upgraded the mounts while they were in there.

happened to my 05 over year ago. i could hear something just barely rubbing/touching my fan while i was in a steep incline and couldn't figure it out until I found this motor mount thread. even took it to toyota and they missed it until i read this thread and then took it back and specifically asked them to check that. they did and then wanted to pull the motor to have it welded. i ended up finding a local guy to weld it up with the motor still in for 1000$. but the whole experience was a pain to say the least

Ok, I am going to take the chance and ask a lame question to many of you. I'll ask anyways; My mechanic recently replaced the torque converter, & installed rear breaks w/drums. When mechanics are working on transmissions, would a broken engine mount be obvious? My 06 frame is covered in surface rust. (it didn't qualify for a new frame) The truck has 114,00 miles. I am so nervous about the rust ruining things. I need to keep the truck going for a bit longer. (I love it though) Thank you! : )

To be honest, they can miss it if they aren’t looking around for it. And what I mean is that, if there their to replace the transmission it self.. they might miss looking over the engine mounts. Unless they were told to do so. But In a way they can see it if that took the time to. I hope this answered ur question

I had the same concern. Best is to get up in there and see which pic it looks like from post #11. Then you'll know for sure.

Was the redesign only on the driver side or was the pax side beefed up too?

Was changing the oil the other day and noticed the passenger side weld under the motor mount is starting to separate. It’s cracked about 1” out of maybe 6” of welded surface.
Questions are: can this be reinforced easier and cheaper since it has yet to cave in?

I am not a welder so I will have to have a shop do the work. Rough estimate of cost?

Does the front diff have to be removed to do the repair or can I just get it reinforced from the bottom side where the weld is starting to separate

This is on my 2006 with 198k. It’s really the only issue I’ve had in the 150k I’ve owned the truck.
