I will 2nd that. These are nice little pumps. I bought this one instead of the plug in cigarette lighter type. I also bought the heavy duty tool bag below to put it in. (Wished I would of got a camo one)

are the 24 volt clamp ones better than the cig lighter ones? More power?

    Edit 12 volt.

I bought the clamp on because I was concerned I may blow fuses with the cigarette lighter plug in.

For TRD Bros™ is there any advantage to running a comp off the 120V outlet as opposed to a cig lighter or battery?

    Viair 400P-RV kit.

Cut the power wire to add a quick-disconnect connector. Added the same connector to the original clip-on wire, as well as a permanently-connected hard-wire. Allows the compressor to be hardwired day-to-day, but to be easily removable and used on another vehicle/application with the original clip-on wire.

Then build a long, narrow box that will sit on top of the wheel protrusion in the bed, and throw the Viair (along w/ other goodies) inside for instant access whenever you want it, and no connectors to fiddle around with.

More details in build thread (link in sig).

That outlet is only 400 watts (assuming it's the same as the one on the Limited). The outlet is probably only good for running a stereo or a light.. pretty much useless for any kind of power tool I'd think.

they are 12 volt. When connected to a running truck battery, they receive 13.8 to 14.3 volts
no. you will lose much power through the inverter.

Oops, ya 12 volt. So basicly the compressor gets more power off the battery versus the cig lighter?

    120v 400w = 3.3a.

I had a 2000w inverter on my old truck which works out to 16+amps. If needed it can run anything you would at home. Had it set up with HD elec forklift quick connects direct to the battery. Pop hood, connect and run whatever I needed. Also had my booster cables set up to use those quick connects for a solid connection when needed.

You want to run the pump straight off the battery. Most cig ports are good for 10-15amps. Any pump worth buying/ using is going to pop the cig fuse.

Here is a guide when wiring, pump should list maximum draw.

the cigarette lighter usually has a 15 amp fuse in line with it. The battery plugs have their own fuse rated to what the pump is designed to draw.

For what it's worth, my VIAIR 400p is rated at 30amp draw and has a 40amp inline fuse. Definitely no-go for a cigarette lighter.
