I think I need a new clock spring as my air bag light is on. Dealer wants $425 for the part, but I have been seeing some on Amazon for $30-$60 but the description of which model years they fit is very vague. Anyone have a part number for an aftermarket one? or any recommendations as there is no way i'm spending $425 for one from toyota. Mine is not covered by the recall either, i tried that one.

    https://www.amazon.ca/Airbag-Spiral-Spring-843060E010-8430648030/dp/B016HMHVPG

This one any good? lists my model tacoma.

    http://www.ebay.ca/itm/84306-48030-...ash=item5d602b0de6:g:KucAAOSwg3FUjrOC&vxp=mtr

Just trying to get a feel for is these are any good, seem aweful cheap compared to toyota's price. Anyone on here use one of these cheapies?

don't buy the cheap ebay or Amazon. just get one from the factory unless you want to change it again in a few months

I got my last one off of eBay. No issues.

I have got them from the dealer before, I never paid that kind of money

I rebuild wrecks, so replacing this part is common for me, in case you were wondering.

Doorman makes one for $170 and comes with a lifetime warranty. This might be the best option?

How long has yours from eBay been in your Tacoma?

    $425 is Canadian from Toyota.

Wasn't this part one of the recalls ? I'm sure they did the spiral thing and a seat belt spring.

I called and they ran my vin and said my truck isn't under this particular recall. Don't know why not, but if I can get one for cheap enough I don't mind all that much as I'm getting a new frame and everything, so hard to complain too much.

Not a Tacoma, my Tundra has had the ebay ribbon cable installed for 3+ years.

Well at least you checked it out. Wonder how they determine who gets what and who doesn't? I got mine done. Good luck finding a reasonable priced product that works for you.

Good to know. For all the time it takes I think I'll save $400 and try the eBay one. Still baffles me how some get recalled and some don't.

Just don't make the mistake I did.

I don't have wheel puller, but I do have a dent puller/slam hammer with a wheel pulling attachment.

I hooked it up, sat in the seat and started using the dent puller like you normally do. That steering wheel was being a bitch! I was really giving that puller a work out. Finally the wheel pops off! Unfortunately the weight on the puller kept going! Smacked myself in the fore head! That fuckin' hurt!

You know how they say good lessons are embarressing, or painful? Mine was both.

Sounds like something I would do. I'll get a puller from local parts shop, or online. Dealer said they have computer to hook up to truck to disable the air bag, but I assume disconnecting the battery and waiting 15-30 minutes for power to discharge would net the same results? Save me the $100 labour rate.

Agree that this is an easy diy job... when I did mine, I didn't even need a puller.

no puller needed to take the wheel off on these trucks. just a little tap from behind. make sure you mark the position of the clocking before removal
