I get the P0500 cel, but everything works as normal and no blown fuses.

I'm starting to think it has something to do with the gauge cluster after reading around and replacing my ABS harnesses for no reason.

    IG1 blew.
I was driving uphill stretch at highway speed.
Defrost was probably not on but don't know for sure.

Have you done anything else to the vehicle lately? Or beat on it recently?

I'm thinking you and I are getting the P0500 for completely different reasons.

All I did was change the tranny fluid to Redline MT90.

He is getting the code because he is losing the speedo. I doubt it has anything actually to do with the speed sensor.

If the code were throwing without the loss of the fuse and speedo, I would be more concerned about it actually being the speed sensor.

    Ok.
A couple of days in the shop and it appears the reverse switch(the switch in the tranny that powers the reverse lights)which I replaced was faulty, had an internal short.
A new switch and it's looking good.
    Thanks for all your help.
