Like many of you that have late model trucks, I get a call from my local dealer from time to time telling me they need clean late model trucks and they'd give me a great trade-in on a new truck. But today's call was a first.

So I got a call again today, but this time the call was a little different. Today the salesman said they wanted to buy my truck. No mention was made of trading it in. He said they'd give me "top dollar."

I politely told him I really liked my truck and had no desire to get rid of it. He laughed and said "Shoot...I was afraid of that." Evidently he's looking for a specific model truck for a customer and my truck fit the bill.

I got a kick out of that. You know, it's nice to be wanted, but even better than that is when someone wants my truck. I don't think I've ever owned a vehicle that anyone else wanted before.

One of the biggest reasons why I decided on a tacoma was the resale value. Not that I needed much convincing lol :fistbump:

It's a script. There's a thread full of people who have gotten that call from a salesperson. "I have someone who is looking for your exact year and trim..."

I told them I'd take the deal if they put me in a 2017 super white TRD OR, same monthly payments, no additional months. I haven't heard back...

Yeah, my old harley dealer tried that crap with me. It was a nice day so I took a ride out of curiosity. Low ball bait and hook bullshit.

All salesmen use the same lame played out lines.

I've purchased an embarrassing amount of vehicles over the years and THAT is one of the more annoying, over used tactics being whored around.

It spikes your interest to hear "top dollar" and gets your gears grinding thinking about what other vehicle you might want OR if you were already *thinking* about trading in on something different/new they also get your attention. The fact is they will offer you the same low blue book TRADE-IN value of a base model similar to your vehicle that they would offer you any other day of the year. :jerkoff:

It's cheesy, lame and played out, but we all have bills to pay and that's the way they do it. I've learned that salesmen all read the same book and copy the same tactics in order to sell more cars. It annoys the hell out of me, but I know we all need to make a living. :notsure: There is a sucker born every minute...

I get letters all the time from my local dealer with the same "paying top dollar for your trade in" crap. Never had a phone call though, I bought my truck because I'm hoping it would outlast the competition not necessarily because of resale. I'm hoping that it's the last truck I own.

Yup... and I've gotten those letters for my wife's Honda, her Lexus, my Infiniti, my Tacoma... hell, we even got one for our little Hyundai Accent commuter car. I just trash 'em.
