2nd Gen Reverse DB lift ?s

    6" lift, 33x17, King Shocks, JBA UCAs, rock sliders, front winch bumper w/winch, rear high clearance bumper, raised CAI, etc.
    I am looking for some suggestions. I have an 09 DBLCB that came with a Rough Country 6" lift and 33x12.5x18s. I would like to improve the suspension for better off road performance. My questions are:

    1. Should I just keep the current lift hardware and just put 6" coil overs up front and an add a leaf in back to get rid of the blocks?

    2. Should I go with a 3"-3.5" lift instead? (I'm willing to do a CMC). I'm not sure how well these tires would fit without cutting.

    I plan on putting a Pelfrybilt front and rear bumper on this year with a winch so weight on the front end is another concern. (I have talked to Icon and I would be 30 to 40 lbs away from upgrading to their 700lb springs up front. I just put ECG sliders on so I would probably be at that point.)

    My end goal is to be able to run the 33"s in the summer since I wheel in a lot of sandy areas and then run a more stock oriented rim with AT's the rest of the year (optimally a 285x75x17 or similar). My guess is that it would be cheaper to stick with the 6" hardware and just improve the suspension. Any downsides to going either route? Thanks.

    I'm in this same boat. I have a new to me truck with a Pro-Comp-ensator DB lift and big blingy wheels and tires. I have already started stockpiling parts to ditch the current lift setup in favor of a more functional mid-travel setup.

    From what I have discovered this is neither easy nor cheap. DB lifts require cutting a section out of the second front suspension cross-member. In order to remove the DB lift you will either have to find a section of stock cross-member to weld back in, or fabricate a new cross-member; not an undertaking for the faint of heart since this affects the safety and drive-ability of your truck. At this point most people will tell you just to find an un-molested truck and start over.

    Second, you must source new stock spindles, since the compensator lift replaces the stock units with their own. I had a hard time finding these cheaply.

    Next, I'm gonna bet the 4 inch lift block has wasted the already weak stock leaves in the rear. I'm just gonna replace the entire pack on my project.

    After those things its just normal parts, coilovers, shocks, brake lines, etc.

    Good luck man. Im slowly putting together my parts pile, and sometime in the spring I might get them all on.

    Thanks man that helps. I kind of figured it would be easier and cheaper to stick with what I have and maybe look at the 6" offerings for the front. Fox and Icon make them and I see BSD offers the long Fox ones for ProComp. I will have to contact them to ensure they will work with the Rough Country setup. I can confirm, however, that the suspension was installed by the dealer I bought it from so everything is brand new. With that in mind the rear leaf's should be okay. Looks like I would have to throw some TC UCAs in too from what I can figure out. Now would be the time to fix it anyway.

    I know this is an old Post, but I am in the same situation. I am looking to replace my rear blocks and upgrade my front suspension on my 6in lift. You have any advice?

    So what I ended up doing was buying the 6" front and rear shocks from King (contact Noah on Toyota Tacoma Enthusiasts Facebook Group). I also bought the JBA UCA's as well. Did all the work myself and it's been fantastic. I still have to dump the rear blocks and replace with leafs from Deaver. I contacted them and got a quote for around $700 something last I recall. No fitment issues with any of the RC components either and I did put new lower ball joints in since the JBA's have them. Obviously you want to get an alignment afterward. Also, check your sag as I think I was about an inch lower on the driver side after it all settled. Hope that helps. I don't regret any of it. Glad I went the route I did.

    I should also note that I dumped those stupid 18s and put 17s on. With the King shocks and 17s it's a much nicer ride plus I can air down a lot more which is a big deal for me as I do a bit of offroad.
