Is this tint job normal dealership quality?

Looks like they cut it with a utility knife, and poorly.

I wouldn't have left their property with that hack job on my windows.

Not until 3 months ago when I was driving on the highway with the sun behind me, and I've had it for a couple years now so I can't complain about it now can I?

 

Nope. A good job to remove the old tint and put new in is like $300

 

Regardless of whose quality it is... That's just flat out awful

 

You know, I did buy it used at the dealership... is it possible that the previous owner took off the tint, then reapplied it?

It's very unlikely that the tint would come off in one piece, and even then I am doubtful that it would be able to be reapplied after removed. It's probably cheap tint that the sun has taken its toll on over the years

I was just reading in another tint thread from a guy who does tints. He said the back windows are the toughest to do, as there is no margin for error when making the cuts. They have to be precise. Apparently the side windows are a lot more forgiving.

 

Because they retract, so the part of the glass at the very bottom that you don't ever see isn't as big of a deal.

 

Yeah, and I always noticed that the edges (where the window is retracted into when closed) is always left bare, so I'm sure that's where the wiggle room comes from.

Very few dealerships apply tint using in-house staff, it is typically sub'd-out to some "mobile" tinting outfit. Glass replacement is more often than not sub'd out too...

It looks like I did it.

 

Use a clothes steamer and remove it yourself (steamer will make the job very easy) then take it to a reputable shop and have it re-tinted.
