I had a 2006 RTL and a 2008 RTS. They're good vehicles depending on what your needs are. MPG wasn't too bad, I averaged 18. Maintenance-wise it's a Honda I had no issues at all. The rear seat row I think is a bit more roomy than the Tacoma but not by much. The trunk was nice to have. I liked the dual action tailgate. It wasn't very fast, wasn't very rugged. Off road capabilities were not great, not much suspension travel and there's no low range either. The on-road ride is pretty good, basically it rides like a pilot but a little firmer. The tailgate will not bend like 2nd gen Tacomas do.

I like my Tacoma better. Looks better. More rugged. More capable. I'm sure it will last a lot longer than a Ridgeline. TONS of aftermarket support. I like to tinker with and mod my vehicles so the Tacoma is much more interesting to me.

Have you considered looking at a Longbed? Maybe that extra foot for your bikes will be the game changer for you, or have you thought about just getting a full sized truck like a F-150 or Tundra?

After looking over the ridgeline id say get a full size truck if you need more room, i dont even think the ridgeline would hop a curb without yanking the nose off it reminds me of a lowered s10 chevy, looking at the design of it doesnt look like you can do much for it lifting wise, id just as soon have a minivan and pull a trailer, but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. It would probably make a good mall hopper but geeze that thing is just as bad as the tacoma price wise.

The Ridgline is not a real truck, but neither is the Tacoma. No Mid Size is a real truck.

If you want space and versitity go full size or keep the Taco and get a mini van.

My point was those who say a Ridgline isn't a truck likely shouldn't consider a Taco a truck either by the same standards.

The trailers I've carried would snap a Taco in half so I don't consider it a real truck. It just looks cool but little truck like capability.

I rented a 2016 F150 4X4 V8 for a business trip. After a week with that thing, I cringed getting back into my Tacoma. More power, better fuel economy, and double the payload is hard to pass over. If I could afford another car payment my Tacoma would be sitting on the Ford dealer's used lot.

Your right about the F150 ford, ive got a 2013 super cab with the 302 v8 i drive ever day for my work truck, the truck will get 20 mpg all day long. And its not the one with the aluminum parts on it. I have put 130,000 miles on it and all ive done is changed the oil runs flawless, cant beat it for hauling comfort and the power. Where i really enjoy the tacoma is when im in the mountains or on the trails the shorter wheel base lets me make turns and turn around if i need to, where as the ford with the full size bed you got to have alot of room to manuver, ive even got blocked in parking lots because somebody parked to close. Now a short bed ford f150 would be different, but for what i use the ford for a tacoma could not handle it.

Agreed. One of my few complaints was the turning radius, and I even had the short bed. It felt like the wheels weren't fully turning to lock. However, with kid #4 on the way, I'll eventually have to sacrifice maneuverability for cab space.

Stay with Toyota and get a tundra, if you have to let the Tacoma go. Plenty of room in the back for a couple of car seats.

My life wouldn't change without a Tacoma, but it's change a lot if I didn't prioritize my kids.

    Food for thought.

I toiled with this decision before going for the '11 dcsb sr5 a few days ago. Quite a few, some on here, have said the ridgeline is no real truck. Honestly, it's a truck, but it's not the truck 95% think they need and is a truck that 95% actually should be buying. But because it can't tow 23,000 pounds up a 15% grade of cinderblocks at 60mph just like in that commercial, then, "it's not a real truck."

I owned a '97 S-10 with the ZQ8 package. That would be similar to the 'extreme' model variant of low sports car suspension and Camaro wheels. Was that a real truck? Nobody complained and in fact, appreciated the little thing. It towed 1,500 pounds of U-Haul across the country when i needed it to and got 16-17mpg doing it. It did everything I needed in a truck at the time. My how opinions change with the commercial fashions on TV. Today it would practically be called a girl-truck, but just like that truck, the ridgeline does everything you do and want to do if it does not involve logging and fire roads in the hills. I defend the Ridgeline as a truck that everyone really needs but refuses to buy because it's not what they believe they really need. Here, I'll show you:

Here is what most do with a truck 95% of the time. Towing a car on a trailer? :

Off roading to the top of a mountain? :

So the real point, is about what you are doing with it. The second video supports the Ridgeline's position as a worthless off-roader and therefore the presenter is so in the verge of proclaining it's not a real truck. Know what? It was never designed to BE that sort of truck and testing it against products is like testing a minivan against a corvette and complaining it's terrible at handling on a track. It was designed to do the other truck things on-road much better than anything else and not be a swiss army knife.

So don't be discouraged with something because it's not high enough to mount a pair of truck-nuts. A Taco can ride great. A Taco can move everything you need. A Taco can last well past 400k miles and actually have equity after that. Get what you need. Enjoy it. Don't let the pressures of what is and is not define what you want.

    Good luck.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
If you go by that, then anything less than an 18 wheeler is not a "real truck". Your right in the fact that a Tacoma, Colorado, and Ridgeline can not tow a 20,000 lb trailer, but that doesn't make them less of a truck. Use the right tool for the job. I have an 05 F-250 that I used for hauling heavy loads and the Tacoma for other jobs.

We can agree to disagree. The Honda, while I'm sure a fine vehicle,is a unibody. That right there rules it out of the truck market for me. Obviously you're not hooking up a 5th wheel to a Tacoma, it's not designed for that. Hell a full-size truck would not even fit down the trails on my hunting properties.

What's so bad about a unibody?

And by the way, it's actually not a unibody like you think. Still has a ladder frame for the engine bay and the bed area.
