Before I start, let me say that I did search. I see many threads about oil and sure don't wanna beat a dead horse... but I think my situation is unique.

My truck is a 96 Taco 4x4 4 banger, purchased 3 weeks ago as a "beater". It has 232000 miles and runs/drives great. The guy I purchased it from (2nd owner) told me that he has used Rotella Heavy Duty oil (15W40) since he bought it 3 years and 60K miles ago.

But my question is, does using a heavy duty oil formulated for diesel engines provide a benefit that I'm not seeing? Or would I be better off changing to the recommended oil weight (5W30)? Would changing at this point have any potential negative side affects?

    Any help appreciated.

My truck burns a lot of oil so I use 15w40 in it.

I would not recommend Rotella HD oil. It does not have the important friction modifiers that others have. For a quad on the other hand........

Everyone has there different opinions about oil. Maybe look into a hight mileage oil. But if it's worked so far maybe stick w/ the RHD.

Does the oil meet the service rating required by the manufacturer, such as SJ, SL, or SH? The service rating should be listed on the bottle.

Diesel oils have different service ratings which are different from gasoline engines.

I don't think it does meet the ratings...
