I have found a strange looking green leak at the bottom of my A/C rad. I thought freon was clear.Maybe dye?

My A\C is still cold but I guess not for so long.

Anyone ever see something like this?

Yep, that's what a A/C freon leak looks like.

You could attempt to tighten it and add more r143a+ but it will probably still leak a little. The R134A+ is supposed to have a leak sealer but usually doesn't work perfectly.

Best bet is to go to a mechanic for all A/C issues.

    Thanks guys!

I'm still under extended warranty so I might as well use it and bring it to toyota.

Yup. Looks like the condenser is busted or the o-ring between the a/c line and condenser is shot. If it's under warranty, take it to Toyota.

You definitely have a leak. The refrigerant carries the oil and the dye in the oil in what you see. Take it to a mech and have the a/c system properly evac'd and the seal replaced and recharged.

Apologies for the necro, but the stealership wants $1050 to fix this one on my 2007 TRD OF with 33k miles. Sigh. I hate the moment I walk into the dealership.

Any Harvard Business Professor will scold you for considering the dealership to fix that.

Take it to a local small shop. You'll be pleasantly surprised at their quote.

What he said. You should only use the dealership mechanics for warranty work.

Even if you need a condenser and dryer, the cost of those parts is less than $200.

i just changed out my AC compressor not long ago. Autozone has most of the specialty tools needed in their loan-a-tool program. Only thing that isn't really DIY is evacuating the system before loosening any connections...just had a local shop do it. They shouldn't charge much because they can reuse the refrigerant. Don't put any of that stop leak crap in the system though

isn't that the point of a vacuum pump and pressure test before refilling?

Would everyone stop calling it Freon. Freon was the trademark by the Chemours Co. for R12 refrigerant. R134A is simply called R134A.

Also, when a shop evacuates an AC system the refrigerant is run through a dissectant filter that removes moisture. It's an acceptable practice to reuse that same refrigerant. A tech will either fill a measured amount of liquid refrigerant into a charging cylinder, or program the recycling/charging machine to fill the system. Head pressure should be bled from the recycling machine tank on a regular basis.

I was gonna mention this earlier, too. I just gave up worrying about correct vernacular. I'm happy that people want to learn about refrigeration.

Just noticed mine is leaking in the same spot. I was hoping to try to tighten or put some stop leak in it? I am sure some Teflon tape would work if I had it evacuated first.
