    Hey TW,
I have a an Off-road and I wanted to change the factory speakers for something better. I went to a local shop and I was informed that the Entune system does not allow for aftermarket speakers is this true?

Sounds like that shop does not know what it is talking about, you should be able to change your speakers.

How could the radio know what speakers it's hooked up to? Do the use HDMI cables. Speaker wire just allows the sound no other info is passed between the head unit and speaker. Do your self a favor and never go back to that shop.

    Don't do it.
I swapped out the factory speakers with the JBL and they don't sound as close to factory.
Better to keep the factory speakers and add a sub. Use less bass on the door's speakers will definitely sounds much better.

A lot of factory systems have amps that drive funky ohm speakers, like the Alpine Jeep system speakers are 2 ohms resistance.

Not sure what the Entune system is but most aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms.

If you plug a 4 ohm speaker into a harness designed for 2 ohms, it will be quieter than factory due to having twice the resistance.

Plus it could damage your amplifier eventually.

An aftermarket headunit is loads better at producing better sound than aftermarket speakers on stock headunit.

Sounds like I could add aftermarket speakers to the Entune system from all the feedback on here. It also sounds like it's not a good idea. Anyone else have aftermarket speaker on their stock Entune head unit?

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
i wish they would just put preouts on these new head units and the ability to remove the equalizing

I did a moderate build in my sport. Kicker 6.5 Front door, Kicker 6.75 rear door, LC6i, Kicker 8" powered sub, and Kicker 250W amp for speakers. Still need to get mounts and add kicker tweeters. All connected to entune premium head unit.

I put the stock speakers back and added a powered sub under the passenger's seat. Turned down the bass on the speakers and let the sub help with the bass. Sounds much better.

Glad that crutchfield accepted the return of the JBL speakers.

I have a 2013 with factory touch screen (not entune) but I'd image concept is still exactly the same. I added an AudioControl Lc2i, ran a Sound Ordnance B8ptd powered sub off that, and just added a 500w amp and some Rocksford fosgate 6x9s off that. Sounds 100x better and I get to keep the factory unit. Running aftermarket speakers off the stock unit wasn't enough of a change to me to make it worth doing, but people do it for better sound quality with the right speakers, but you can't just throw any speakers on a stock unit and expect it to sound way better by what I've seen. I'm no audiophile and all I was looking for was more oomph, better sound quality, and higher volume and that's exactly what I got. The speakers actually helped fill out the bass even more.

I may add a 10" sub or something in place of the powered sub behind the rear seats in the future...haven't decided just yet if its worth it for what I want.

That's weird. Been 30 yrs since I was really into car audio. Seems back then I was taught to always put your money in better speakers.

Replacing only the speakers is worthless. Need atleast a new headunit or a dsp plus amp to get anything out of aftermarket speakers.

I went with the oem audio plus 450q system personally and would recommend it.

If I was you I would ignore the shop and some of the responses here, and go to the audio section of this forum to get some good information on upgrades that work with the existing HU.
