I am in the market for a new truck and am sticking with Toyota. However, I cannot decide between the Tacoma and tundra. We have had our Tacoma for ten years and love it but I'm finding more and more how useful a larger bed would be. My concerns are off road capabilities. I am not doing any crazy rock crawling but would like some opinions from anyone with experience on both trucks about making the switch or staying with the Tacoma.

I was deciding between a full size and a mid size. After driving a Chevrolet S10 for years and previously owning a full size, I found that day to day, the smaller truck was just easier to bump around town, park, maneuver in tight parking lots, weave in and out of traffic etc. I tend to like the bigger truck on long trips..... 99% of my driving is going to work and back and dealing with lots of traffic.

In the end, I decided to try the Taco (I'm a Chevrolet guy) and if I didn't like it, I could sell it and get most of my money back and buy a full size.

I have around 16,000 miles since April and am pretty happy with my Taco Wagon.

I recently upgraded to a tundra from an 08 Tacoma. For off-road, I'd stick with the taco. Better features and the size is better for that world. Unless you absolutely need the full size power or towing ability, I would vote for the Taco.

Tundra supercharged!!! Or I'd prolly go with a older Chevy orrrr vortex max? Those are sick I hear

I always felt like the tundras where very under powered but most people I know love them more than anything

Tundra. Had my taco for 5 years and do not regret the decision to go to the dark side.

I went from my 15 tundra to a 17 tacoma..love the amenities and comfort the tundra offered and very nice V8. Tacoma is nice but I had enjoyed my Tundra a bit more. Just wish it had more offroad features such as locking rear.

It all depends on what you want to do with it and how. I know alot of guys that get boners driving around in their lifted cummins and powerjokes trying to blow black soot everywhere. They all talk about how much power they're pushing to the rear wheels and whatnot yet they never use it to haul anything that a dodge avenger couldnt handle. Me on the other hand I'm perfectly ok with the 2.7L Tacoma. Ive got 2 of them now. I wasnt really expecting to get the new one but i couldnt afford the dually i was driving when i tried to start a brush hogging business. So i had to sell 3 of my full size trucks and a tractor and now i got the 17 taco. I started hauling scrap metal in high school and brought in 50 tons with the 98 taco and various trailers. My 17 is sitting with around 1000lbs of I beams in the bed waiting till monday to unload. The small trucks ive had are used way harder than most of the fullsize trucks you see people drooling over and still dont break down nearly as much. And with my operation actually help out cause i'm not afraid to park in tight ass roads the way i was with the fullsize ones. Its all about what you want and how you wanna do it.

I had a '13 DCLB Tacoma and went to a crewmax limited tundra. The extra cab room was needed but only comes with a5'6" bed. So far no regrets except hard keeping tank full

I have a 99 Taco and 04 Tundra and think Woodrow hit it on the head, love the quick navigation and parking of the Taco in the City but now I am no longer a bachelor and the family fits and rolls much better in the Tundra. Own a Limited Tundra so I like the leather and amenities....but damn my heart is broken that the Taco has frame rotting and it still runs like a champ at 214,000!

I'm in the same boat right now. My 2013 Tacoma was totaled due to flooding back in January and now I am debating between Tacoma and Tundra. Looking at used trucks, the Titan is a lot more affordable because Toyotas hold their value like crazy... I am actually considering a Titan just because it is so much more affordable.

Does anybody have any insight on the Titan, or am I simply out of line for mentioning Nissan in a Tacoma forum ;-).

I'd go for a toyota man. Strictly because they hold their value and they are reliable. If you but something that doesn't hold value then you'd be wasting your money when it comes time for repairs or trade in when it's time for an upgrade. Just my .02.

I just traded in my 2004 Tundra DC for a 2017 Tacoma Sport AC. I didn't like the size of the tundra and the way it looked. The beds on the 2 trucks are very close to the same size. I do small carpentry jobs on the weekends and I think the Taco will do fine.
Note to anyone looking at old Tundras, look under the bed liner for rust. I kept my truck almost salt free most of the time and my bed rusted through!

Don't know if it matters but yesterday I saw a brand new Titan on a flatbed getting towed. It was the new diesel version. From what I could tell by passing him on the highway it looked like it had blown a drive shaft as it was laying on the bed of the truck lol. I was gonna try to get a picture but I was driving 75 mph and wasn't about to wreck my work truck. I'm not sure what the circumstances were for the drive shaft to break but it still happened. I remembered you had said something about the Titan so I just wanted to tell ya lol.
