What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

How many should a 488 have when counting? And is there anyway to test the locker itself? Hook air up to it possibly?

 

Been a good day for taco spotting around my neck of the woods. Seen a couple 1st gens with bumpers that were really unique. Wish I had seen them parked so I could take a pic.

 

On my phone and can't remember teeth count. I'll get back on that. But yea. Hook it up to air and check for leaks.

 

Local Toyota dealer has a 1st gen for sale. They are asking over top dollar and the frame looks like it was pulled up from the Titanic. Somebody is going to loose a lot of money when this becomes a parts truck.

It's not that hard, just a little nerve-racking! I made a template of the lights, measured twice for equal distance from license light and the plastic bumper cover that hangs down over the edge, and to make sure they were level.
I think it is 4 1/4" from the light and 1/2" down from the plastic cover. I used a Mikita angle grinder with 4" cut off wheels from Harbor Freight (get the 10 pack). Just be careful the grinder will want to "take off" while working in one direction versus the other based on the rotation of the grinder. Then just drill 4 holes-the lights did NOT come with mounting bolts and nuts. A quick trip to the hardware for 8 allen head bolts and lock nuts and was mounted. I used t-taps to tie into the green wire for the stock reverse lights, ran 14 ga wire, then used heat shrink to seal them all. Super bright. I hope this helps.

 

For cuts in.thin.metal like that you can use a jigsaw with a metal blade. Drill holes at corners for start points.

 

Yes that will work also, but a grinder is waaayyy faster. I did mine and my buddies, all 4 cuts, in like 15 minutes. Maybe practice on some scrap metal first.

Installed some mini led's into the cup holders and console box. It matches the factory color perfectly. Also installed the GTA Bluetooth kit into the factory radio which I highly recommend.

 

I quite like this. Where'd you get them & how did you install them?

Also, you should replace the rubbery bits in the cupholders. They help a lot.

 

Got them off eBay. Search 3mm orange led. Just make sure you get the ones with the black housings. I wired them to the shifter light. They will also dim with the dimmer knob. +1 on the rubber thingies

 

Hmm a bit of trouble for me, then. I've got a manual trans. So no shifter lights lol

From what I've seen, either the ratio (4.88) or teeth counts will be stamped on the outside of ring gear. 4.88 should be 39/8
