When I lived in Currituck and all the trucks were headed to the Banks I was across the road from my place in the lower part of the Back Bay fishing. My place was a single wide trailer sitting on an acre and half of swamp when I was stationed in the Tidewater area. Geese in the front yard and deer in the back. The bass were so common that quite often on my back cast (fly fishing) a fish would jump out of the water and hit my fly. Broke most all of those off, hard not to, but always made the heart skip a beat.

Couple of hunting dogs and training every day, bird hunting, sporting clays skeet and trap, reloading and fly tying, wood working, keeping the house going and the occasional cleaning LOL. Not sure how I have time to work. But I'm lucky and for the most part during system outages have enough filters between me and those asking stupid questions while I fix things that I can actually work without being interrupted. And some hobbies (is a way of life a hobby?) take a fair amount of money. So I'll keep working, as the poll says I like buying stuff. And as I get older it has become nicer stuff. But don't get a lot of things like I used to it is much more selective.

    Oh hey ,

Your the guy to ask , I was out with the pup last night about 2300 hrs and standing what do I hear a goose flying and honking over head I was like wtf .. I have never heard or seen them flying so late in the evening ?? My best guess is there was a fox out and about night before last wonder if he spooked the goose out of some water hole . It was only one squawking and couldn't see him to cloudy and over cast. Do they normally fly in the dark that late ?

I saw the poll and thought it would be fun to participate. I selected option 1 since I retired last year at 59. I feel like I planned well, but it took more than my planning. It took parents that showed me how to do it by example. It took marrying the right partner that was on board with living way below our means for the last 34 years. It took luck that there were no severe financial setbacks. And yeah, it took some hard work and long hours at times but it makes those hours spent out fishing now that much sweeter. ;)

During migration they fly often fly at night. Not so much this time of year. They should all be flocked up by now but there are often scattered loners without a mate. Or their mate is dead so they are a lone bird. Yeah a fox, stray dog, lots of canines and even felines would like to snack on a big fat goose. But no not very common to see them at night. I will occasional hear them fly over at night here and coyotes calling at the same time.

We get our benefits through tricare plus my wife has hers at no cost for her, just copay.

My wife is 6 years younger, has a lot longer till she reaches her retirement eligibility date. Her work has some "golden 85" thing where age, years of service and some multiplier or divider equal 85. Given that she's 46 now, I think she'll be working long after I'm dead. She does have survivor's benefits too from me plus whatever I leave behind so she'll probably make out better than I will.

Actually that was me for the first 10 years. Then greed and thievery came into the business.
Then it was a job , then it was work. Now it's a thorn...

I've got a similar set up. Age plus years of service need to add up to 85. Or take a penalty for every year that your not 55.
