Ok so I'm new to this forum and to the toyota trucks. I bought a 2001 tacoma knowing that the front actuator needed changed. When I changed it I tried putting the truck in 4wd and no luck but the light keeps blinking as though its trying to lock in. It definitely feels as though the truck is trying to lock in but no luck still :frusty:.

Then we got a pretty decent rain storm last weekend and i was driving around and all of a sudden the truck kicked in 4wd and the light stayed solid. So i preceeded to take it out of 4wd and it worked as planned. But when i woke up the next day it hadnt stopped raining and my roads are aboslute crap so i tried putting it in 4wd again thinking that it may have just fixed itself, but...same problem light blinking and trying to engage but no luck. I really cant figure this out and just seeing if i could get some help with this. thanks:fingerscrossed:

Just to clarify, when the truck kicked into 4wd all of a sudden and the light was solid, did it do that on its own or had you previously pressed the 4wd button?

I can't really help much but hopefully I can draw some others in who can.

i had previously tried hitting the button but nothing happened. All i did was pull into the local gas station go in grab a few things and when i came out i noticed the light was solid. so I took it to a sandy road and I could definitely tell it was in 4wd. I hit the button again and it took a while but it finally disengaged and the light went off, and it was in 2wd. but it did act up again through out the night. Every Time i would be driving and hit a big water hole about 30 seconds later the light would go solid again and the truck would engage.

Ok so on my way to the local toyota dealership I pulled over after blinker quit, so as I'm looking for another bulb and for some reason I decided to look at the plug on the t-case actuator or motor and it turned out that the plug wasn't making a good enough connection. So now that problem is fixed.
