@BThorson how bad do you rub with the 285 and what have you done to solve this issue?

Its not to bad it rubs more when turning left than right. i took off the front mud flaps and need to do the pinch weld mod. I am going to wait until its warmer because I don't want to cut my inner fender I am going to take it off do the mod then remold the fender with heat so it won't rub.

I just did it on my first gen yesterday between rain squalls here in Santa Cruz. Left the wheels, fender flare and fender liner on the truck. Took less than an hour to do both sides and I'm usually pretty slow with this stuff.

I already had removed my mudflaps and reinstalled the hardware.

Removed 2 screws from fender flare and lower nut, 2 screws from fender liner, trimmed the lowest retaining clip on the fender liner down to a 1/2" square so the liner could slip off of it without pulling the retainer out as you need to leave it to have something to screw into when reassembling. Blew it on the first one and ended up with and extra ziptie over there...oh well. They're a buck a piece from toyota and I didn't have any at the house.

After that I was able to fold the liner up and tuck it behind the fender flare with enough room to work. Even was able to squeeze my 5" grinder in there with the wheel turned to full lock and used a crescent wrench and 4lb sledge to finish it off. Would have been easier without the wheels, but was able to get it done without too much fuss.

Also on the drivers side I pulled a little too hard on the fender flare trying to tuck the rubber trim piece back in and cracked an arm off the red plastic retaining clip on the body about 10" up the fender. Was able to snap everything back together but have a feeling it's going to be a new rattling noise to wait for... fun!

Will come back later and use a heatgun to mold the plastic of the fender liner back, but feel a lot better knowing there's not a knife blade back there just waiting to slice up my new tires. Also might replace a few of those 10mm hex screws with machine screws and counter sunk washers. I'm on 2883 OME coils so it rarely gets close to being able to touch, but in theory could with enough flex.

Many thanks to everyone's posts and pics on here! After reading every page of this thread and the FN Wheels thread, I finally purchased FN f(x) Pro Wheels (17x8, 4.5" bs, 0mm offset) and got my Cooper S/T Maxx (285/70R17) tires installed this past Friday. I only have about 500 miles on them, but I'm enjoying them so far. They replaced Firestone Destination AT (285/75R16) tires which were on stock TRD Off-Road wheels. These are actually softer over imperfections on the road, but that is probably due to being a fresh new tire with lots of tread. These tires are very quiet and handle well.

I can't say for sure quite yet until I get more miles on them, but I think I will probably be losing about 1 mpg on the highway from what I was getting with the lighter Firestones. Unfortunately, I'm a PreRunner so I went with the 285/70 versus the 255/80 so that I could hopefully float on top of soft stuff a little better. I'm thinking I may have had better MPGs with the 255/80...but then again, I bought a Taco, not a Prius.

I went out for a quick trip in the wet dirt today and the tires hooked up great! I snapped some pics from different angles because I know how much everyone likes looking at these cool tires. I'm a new member and I've never posted photos before, so please forgive me in advance if I mess something up. Here it goes...

Yep, the 285s tuck in farely well but stick out maybe about 3/4" or so.

Awesome thanks for letting me know, I was a little worried they were messed up since I've taken them on some pretty grueling roads recently

20psi. Some people I know run 11, 12, 15, etc.. but 20 is my general number and its quicker to get back to 40.

I took mud flaps off. the pic of it inside is the day I got tires. I need to do pinch weld but am going to wait until its warmer because is does not rub to bad now.
