    Howdy,

Tomorrow I'll be heading up to Anchorage, about 220 miles from Homer. This will be the first time I've towed over any distance longer than a few miles so I wanted to check with y'all to make sure I don't do anything exceptionally dumb.

My trailer is a small tilting trailer, probably about 8' by 10'. Load is a motorcycle, a 2016 Triumph Street Triple RX. Together they can't weigh more than a ton or so and my truck does have the tow package. It's a bit hilly between here and there but the highest elevation (I think...) is Turnagin Pass at 900 feet.

Any issues towing in 4WD the whole way?

Should I just let the automatic transmission do its thing or try to keep it in 4th or lower?

    Any other advice?

    Thanks for your time.

EDIT: I'm running a new set of Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 tires.

Really? I didn't even think of that, but I use cruise control all of the time. What's the concern there?

Bare pavement no 4x4. Cruise control more so has to do with gear hunting, its better to let the truck slow down and speed up with hills while towing rather than the cruise trying to dive down 2 gears.

Do you have winter tires or just stockers?

    Fair point. Thanks!

We just had a storm move through so there probably won't be much bare pavement.

I'm running a new set of Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 tires.

Do you need to know, or care?
You should be good. Keep ECT on, 4WD when required, and drive according to conditions, slow and safe. Take care, no issues towing in 4WD.

Towing in snow and ice in 4x4 is not a problem. I just towed a trailer with four sleds up ice covered roads for 150 miles and had no problems. A brake controller and downshifting to 2 or 3 on hills helps.

For towing 3000lbs or less the tacoma is fine. For anything more I recommend a Tundra or even better a new Silverado with 8 speed trans and 6.2L. Damn I miss my 6.2L sierra.

I'd just say to take your time for sure. Anchorage just got a ton snow today, over a foot in town, so the roads are probably gonna be shitty even without a trailer.

Never towed with my taco, but I have towed a truck on a heavy uhaul trailer in snow. Braking on turns is where you have the biggest issues as the trailer does not have ABS and if it locks up or does not have enough braking from the controller it will try to swing around in front of you so be careful especially on downhill turns. Snow and ice really magnify brake bias issues. Good luck and take it easy.

Everything went fine on the way up. Going back with an empty trailer is sure to be much more fun...

I'd rather not think of all the $ spent :(
Glad it went good. Blizzaks on there should be awesome. I'm still running stock. I put about 300 miles on this weekend to Black Rapids area. No issues in 4x4. Even broke trail to the cabin
