    To all,
Thought I might pass this on in case anyone else is interested in putting a maximum sized tool box in a long-bed truck with a shell.

Tool Box 1 – Bought a UWS wedged tool box after researching for weeks (http://www.uwsta.com/p/55-chest-wedg...ched-blk?pp=12). With the Leer top coming I still wanted something with even further security to store my toys inside the shell and it had to be long enough to accommodate the longer barrels if you know what I mean. The crossovers would have interfered with the Leer top and raising the lid as well as being able to remove it from the bed was also an option I wanted. You could not pivot a crossover far enough as I was able to check it in my 2007 Tacoma that had an ARE bed. After going to a local shop and looking at some of the wedged ones I realized the 55” would fit but would require notching out the corners. Bought it and took it to a welding shop and was in a hurry. The guy took the measurements on Friday afternoon and I left it with him but told him do not cut it till I come back down and we look at the measurements closer. On Monday (Veterans Day – I am retired Navy, oh the irony) he called me at home and said he had cut it. A dark cloud entered the room and I told him I had wanted to recheck those measurement and that I hoped he had not cut out huge chunks of the bottom. Went down there and of course he had. Kept my calm, told him to weld it back together and we went over the measurements again. He could tell I was pissed and when I picked it up he offered to give it to me no charge. Didn’t want to totally screw him over so I paid him even though it isn’t perfect and it could have been done better. He also had to do a lot of welding and spend a lot of time repairing his screw up anyway. Bottom line is this chest had 13.7 cubic feet of storage although I lost some with the notches he took out. Still am not sure how far the lid will go up in the truck when the shell is installed and might have to take it back to the welder and we will cut and tack down the corners of the box. The box can be lifted up just above the wheel wells and removed from the truck with shell installed. Got the box for $350 from H&H and the botched welding job was $150.

Tool Box 2 – You can see where I lost some storage room on the sides.

Tool Box 3 - After paint job – not too bad but still irritated.

Interior of Tool Box 1 - You can see that it would only have taken small notches to allow the box to fit. If done right, I bet I would have only lost .5-1 cubic feet of storage space.

@Arrowshot Funny, your first pic always pops up when I google Tacoma Truck Box, and I always think what an f'ed up cut job. Now I know the back story. Looks fine painted though.

That's why I'm surprised the pic has been popping up near the top of my google search.

Just trying to find the biggest chest box that I can fit in my long bed.

If I had not had the gun box option in the top of my shell I might have been able to get by without having to slice and dice. Main issue was getting the box out without taking the shell off.
