Just bought my first Tacoma, 06 double cab long bed with a leer canopy. Wondering if I should mount roof racks on the cab or the canopy? Any advice?

What do you plan on carrying on the rack? There are load limits for the canopy and the roof, that may help you decide. Only other thing I would consider is putting it on the canopy to distribute the load of whatever you're carrying over the rear. Then, if you still need more rack space, put a secondary rack on the roof of the cab.

The heaviest load I can anticipate would be kayaks, which together probably weigh close to 100 lbs. Good point about load distribution. Guessing the weight capacity of the canopy depends on the model?
