I just bought a 1997 Tacoma that didn't have the spare tire tools. I bought a jack and tool kit on ebay for $20, but it is lacking the hook segment. My question is this:
Do any of the newer generation Tacomas have this hook segment and will it work on my truck?
Also, if anyone has the dimensions of this segment that might help me jerry-rig a new one that would be appreciated.
Thank you for your help kind forum-ers.

Not doing anything wrong. I would bitch and get my money back if you bought the tools for the spare and it didn't come with the hook. Are you sure you got the correct year tool set? You can crawl under there with a set of pliers and do it by hand, if you can contortion yourself to get to it. Other than that, a boneyard may be the answer.

What I am hoping to glean from this forum is if this hook segment is the same for newer models. I see this part for sale for 2003-2015 models and it looks similar.

Only thing I can suggest is calling a Stealership and ask what the part number is for your model, then the part number for the newer models. Bet they are the same.

According to the Toyota Parts database, if I'm understanding what you're after correctly, the part number you're looking for is 09115-04010. It appears this specific hooked rod part was used in 4Runner until 1995 and Tacoma until 2004. In the link below it shows more specifically. I've not heard if other Toyota hooked rod sub assembly pieces can work well enough. With knowing which vehicles have the specific part you need, I think you'll have a better chance of tracking it down on the cheap.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I ended up going to the local "stealership" and buying the hook segment for the newer tacomas ('05-'15) I learned that the difference is the older version has a square fitting whereas the newer version has a hexagon fitting. Seems like a bit of a dick obsolescence move on Toyota's part, but that didn't thwart me. To make it work I simply grinded my old square fitting into the hexagon shape of the new segment. I also drilled another pit for the screw to tighten into.

Then I tried to attach all the segments and realized that not only did they change the square shape to hex, but they reversed the ends of the segment that have the fittings. IE: the ends that had the female receptor now have the male end on the newer version. No problem, just had to grind the end of the "handle" segment. Seen on the left here.

I tested it out and it works perfectly. In total I spent $40 for the Bottle jack and spare tire tools (and spare center brake lens and bag)... not bad considering they go for about $100 on ebay.
