New guy with 2010 SR5 Access; tire question

I have been reading some info here and done some searches about 265/75/17 tires. I want to run these bigger tires and do very little off road driving. The turck has the stock 245 on it now, and I am fairly happy with the ride. What do I need to do to run these bigger tires/wheels (currently have 16'' stock weels). I went to 4weeelparts and I did not know that I wanted 265's; I only told him bigger tires generically. The guy there said he can do a daystar 2.5'' and 5100's. After leaving, I wonder if he thought I wanted to run 285's. So, what do you all suggest to run the 265/75/17 given it's a daily driver and at most a light trail/ fire road truck?

 

So are you getting different rims or what?
you say 265/75/17s, but yet you have 16" stock wheels.
Stock trd Off Road wheels are 16" with 265/70/16 tires
Stock trd Sport wheels are 17" with 265/65/17 tires
no lift with 16" rims biggeset size tire- 265/75/16
no lift with 17" rims biggest size tire -265/70/17
(these larger than TRD size tires look ok with a 3"lift or smaller)
these size tires require no lift, but also look fine with leveling kit or 3 inch lift.
so you can safely move up one size tire with no problems and no lift.
Most people on here that have 3" lift suspension choose 285's,
USe the search, find similar threads, read on....

 

Welcome to TW! 1st set your budget for how much you want to spend. You'll also need to decide how much "work" you want to put into running bigger tires. On a non lifted truck 265/75/16 fills out the wheel well nicely. If you lift it 2.5" with billy 5100s and aal on the rear, 285s look much better, but keep in mind you'll probably either have to run wheel spacers on stock wheels or get aftermarket rims with at least 4.5" backspacing to allow for proper clearance.

Check the buy/sell/ trade section on this site for rims and tires, before you jump into buying a new set up.

Go with the 265/75R16 if you going to keep you original rims.

 

I will check out the used stuff; I did not realize that there was one here. Learning lots. BTW, took a drive in my new truck today. Great day for a ride. I know I want at least one bigger size than stock, I am trying to figure if I want to get new wheels or not. If I do 265/75/16 will they fit without any back space issues?
