That is awesome. I'm wanting to buy me a smaller tablet to pack along with me to use. Just haven't gotten around to it. May up me looking for one after watching how useful this would be.

Same here! I am looking at getting a Data iPad pretty soon for navigation and having something bigger than the iPhone on the road.

I don't use it for overlanding stuff, but I have an iPad mini mounted on a tech deck, works great

    Good to hear!

Was looking at the 9inch screen iPad Air and then getting the GAIA GPS app on it then throwing it on a tech deck or the RAM mount that bolts to the seat anchors.

Good point, I do wonder if the 32GB would work then. I guess it is only $100 more for the 128Gb version...

Good to see that it holds up a tablet. May end up getting a techdeck then, did you do the backing plate or no?
I was only going to run a HAM radio front, possibly a phone mount and then the iPad mount on it.

I know I've posted this picture before, but it aplies to the current topic.

    TechDeck
    Samsung Note 10.1
    Locus Map Pro

The 10" screen has been awesome. Couldn't imagine using anything smaller. GPS has been rock solid and never missed a beat. The SD slot has a 128GB card and allows me to store different map layers of various areas at all times. Super happy with this setup and it works so well.

    Dang, that is nice...

Now you have me thinking that the iPad may not be the way to go. Only reason i was going to do an iPad is that I have an iPhone on verizon already and would be easy to get stuff back and forth from the two.

Very nice, I have yet to take the dash apart, so am hesitant to do that.

I am all about take up apart suspension and such, but when it comes to dash plastic, I hate it.

I dig it. Will be looking to do something like this and get rid of my Garmin Nuvi something or other. Mind shooting me a PM with some ideas on how you would better do this set up and where you got everything?

Not sure how I could make it better as I'm happy with it. Maybe a nicer tablet mount dealio that wasn't as bulky?

You'll be surprised how simple it is for this install. A jewlers flat head screw driver is all you need to remove the HVAC cluster and then the radio just pulls straight out. Theres like 4 or 6 bolts to bolts to be removed as well

I've gone 70 miles per hour through the desert and the thing is stout as can be. It just vibrated right along with the cab flex. I run LeadNav and the audio voice commands are fantastic. The GPS is accurate to within 6 feet.

Good to know! Glad that it is stout and everything and can hold up to trails and such if needed.

I'd rather stay on the Android system but I'm not sure exactly which Tablet would be best with using GPS without the data plan going. I know you can download offline maps of the area with Google Maps but you just have to make sure the Tablet has GPS capabilities in it.
