I just recently moved to the PNW and traded in my 2011 Tacoma for a new 17. The stock tires I have have not held up to well to this winter. Very skiddish in ice and driving up to baker gave me a heart attack. Any advice from Washingtonians on what's worked best for you? I haven't done much off roading yet which needs to change but I do go in snow pretty often and ice is a pretty common occurrence on the island. I've been doing some research on the duratracs as well as the cooper st maxx and pros. Any input on those or others I should be looking at?

You living in the Baker area? I grew up around there :drunk:
As for tires..I run 33" Toyo's but they're obviously not ideal for snow/ice. Best bet is a good tread with studs + sand bags on your back axle and don't drive like your from California (no offense ;)).

lol I'm down on whidbey. It's still hard to get used to the low speed limit's here. Are your toyos pretty aggressive?

They're 285/70/17 Toyo Open Country AT's, 10 ply, can't remember what they're rated. Pretty aggressive but was my daily driver when I bought them hence why I didn't buy an even more aggressive tread. If I had to do it over again I'd probably go with BFG KO2's or a Cooper MT. Yea it sucks going slow but it's better than being in the ditch or in a massive pileup. Regardless of technology, slow and driving defensively is your best friend in that type of weather.

That's the bad thing in California is some people drive overly defensive that they cause wrecks.

I doubt you'll run into that around here. People putting it in 4wd then expecting to go 55 on the freeway are who cause accidents here.
