I have a 2005 sr5 4x4 Toyota Tacoma. It has a 3" suspension lift kit in it. I was wondering if there is any other things I need to put in the truck to make it an off road truck. I don't want it to be a trailerd rock crawler but what else do I have to put in it to make it offf road eligible. Like special breaks or somthing like that

Hmmm....my stone stock TRD Sport is already "offf" road ready. It gets me to every hunting place, fishing place, camping place etc I want to get to. The day it doesn't get me somewhere I want to go, I'll consider what mods are needed, or, if I really want to go there. LOL

Hey, with all respect, it sounds like you really have no clue. That is to be expected if you don't have experience with offroad travel. Some of this knowledge takes years to acquire. The problem is, how you prep your truck can be very specific to how and where you go. The question that you asked is so general that nobody can answer it. I would suggest you join a club, or find a friend that is experienced to take you out and actually do some offroad work. Learn what you like, learn what works for others and why. Offroad driving can be very hazardous. I once found a guy who bought a brand new Landcruiser and took it on a pretty rough trail the same day,...his first offroad trip on a pretty rough trail. His truck was rolled over and his arm was out the window and trapped under the truck. I had to winch the truck off him. It happened on a relatively straight stretch too. My point is that it needs to be taken seriously. You can't just buy the official 4x4 kit and take off. Best of luck!

Very well said. It really depends on how you use your vehicle. At minimum in my opinion, you should have good tires (including spare), a functional jack, basic tools, a shovel, an axe or bow saw, a fire extinguisher, gloves, first aid kit, some emergency water/food, and common sense.

There really is no replacement for experience and research. Having a more experienced friend or a group of folks to help you get into off roading really is beneficial.

I'm on the same boat as you. I don't have any mods, but i know the Tacoma is very capable of off-roading as such.

I agree with whats been said. Even stock these things can do a lot, get out on some basic trails with a friend and common sense and see what you like doing.

Plus hey! welcome to the forum. This place is a wealth of knowledgeable folks. Lets see a pic of your truck!
