Here's my plan, wanted to see what the TW experts thought :D

    Parts are as follows...
1 set of Kicker CS 6.5" Components - mid in the stock location and tweeter in the sail panel. Powered by a Dual 75watt RMS 2ch amp I have from a previous vehicle. I will be running my own speaker wire to the front doors for these only.

1 set of Polk DB series 3.5". I want to mount these in the stock tweeter location and run them off of the stock headunit. They are 91db sensitive so I think they will sound fine without the amp. I have NO IDEA if these fit in the stock tweeter location, anyone mount this size speaker there? They were on sale so I took a shot.

1 set of Polk DB series 6.5" for the rear.

1 Kicker Comp series 10" sub in a box behind rear driver's seat built by supercrewsound.com. This will be powered by a JL 250/1 I have from a previous vehicle.

All doors and area behind rear seats will be sound deadened.

My big question for this setup is how will the 3.5" sound in the stock tweeter location running off factory HU, with a kicker mid (lower door) and kicker tweeter (sail panel) that are pushing 75watt RMS from the 2ch amp? Also, has anyone mounted a 3.5" speaker in the stock tweeter location? Lastly, the signal going to the factory tweeter does NOT run through a crossover, correct? So no issue running a coaxial speaker off of that factory tweeter wiring?

Any thoughts/input is much appreciated. I've done several fairly complex audio installs in several different vehicles, but this will be my first time mixing "amplified" speakers with ones running directly of the HU. Curious if it will sound shitty. I know people are going to tell me to buy a 4ch amp but I already have these 2 good amps in my garage. :boink:

you don't want to run a coaxial and seperates in the same door. you will get some nasty peaks and troughs in the frequency response. maybe just run a midrange there?

the factory crossover is just a capacitor on the driver.

won't sound good at all. The stock deck won't allow you to run that 3.5 as a full range speaker and then you'd need processing to get it working properly as a 3 way. Your gonna have a crazy amount of issues

Thanks guys. I mocked it up as listed above just to see. Stock deck seems to be driving the 3.5" fine on factory wiring. The kicker component set is definitely overpowering it though, I'll probably just ditch the 3.5" and run only components. I'd endorse these Kicker CS Series, they sound good off the 75watt RMS amp. They don't have a ton of bottom but they are crystal clear. Sub box comes in next week so it should round out the sound nicely.

one option you can try just for testing is to swap out the tweeter for the 3.5 and see how it sounds

Quick update...if anyone saw my help thread you know how this ended.

I did have it setup as above for about an hour and man it really sounded great. The stock deck pushes a 3.5in full range speaker with no issues on stock wiring in the stock tweeter location. I was also able to make the 3.5" fit by just bending the factory bracket.

Bed mat, step, and lights, huskie mud flaps, Polk components, Alpine amp, 3 layer sound proofing, B&I blackwood dash kit, fluid film, led cabin and footwell lights, tail letters, window tint, IGGEE seat covers. More to come.
Op, I did not see your help thread but I am fascinated by your experiment. You said you had Polk 3.5 in tweeter location and it sounded great but only left it for an hour? Saw another thread on a "16" install where op put the dash tweeters on rear channel and left the factory crossover in place. I tried this on my "16" and put Polk components in the front doors all connected to Alpine amp. I did not use a processor and the sound is" boxy " so before I give any opinion on the result I need to make changes. I would rather put in a new head unit than add a loc, as new head units have worked well in all my other vehicals, Crutchfield has multiple applications that look good, but I haven't seen any posts here for head unit replacements. So op what was the final install configuration of the speaker install as I am also playing with the 3.5" speaker options?

Well the only reason I removed the 3.5s was my own stupidity. I blew the front left channel on the stock HU because of a bad crimp. Here's my current setup:

-Kicker CS Components in the front (tweeters in sail panels, mids in stock location) driven by a Kicker DX series 125.2 amp
-Polk DB Series in the rear doors running off stock HU
-Kicker Comp 10 sub driven by a JL 250/1

My original plan was the same exact setup as above, but adding Polk 3.5 D series driven by stock HU in the stock tweeter location. Right now, I have nothing in that location because I blew the front left channel on my stock HU

Now, my rear speakers serve as the high-level inputs to the Kicker amp, and that powers the fronts. Sounds AWESOMEEE so I'm not that upset lol. It would have been cool to have the 6 total speakers up front though. It did sound great when I had it setup like that for about an hour before all hell broke loose.

Regarding the LOC - I didn't use one, just a GOOD amp with high-level inputs and that worked totally fine adding to my stock HU. That's just my two cents tho - I'm no audiophile.

My favorite part of this was the relocation of the tweeters to the sail panels. That really sets up a nice sound stage in this truck.
