Personally, I like my Beretta 9mm. It does require larger hands to fully grasp, but I like it more than the feel of a glock. But that's just me. It is an acquired taste.

EDIT: I also like hammer fire over striker. But again, that's just me.

...^^^...I am looking for a 9mm and have always done better with a 9mm & .45 over the .40 also.

    Thanks for the informative post.

Ah man, I've got a great tale for my first handgun.

I bought a Norinco 1911 at a gun show. It was a bit of a basket case- its finish was well worn, and it had random stovepipes (which of course I wasn't told about by the seller) but I got it for a decent enough price.
Took it all apart and learned the inner workings of the 1911, about every piece and what it did. The extractor was worn out which was causing the stovepipes- I bought a new one from wilson combat and installed it myself. It ran flawlessly from that day forward. Problem then was I sucked at shooting! Practice, practice, practice and my groups shrank each time. Fudds would sneer at it, being a Norinco and all, and many butts were hurt as I eventually began to outshoot boutique 1911s with a "shitty pot metal ch**nk gun."

One day I ended up getting an aftermarket hammer for it, but I didn't realize that I would need a beavertail safety to fit it. I brought the hammer in to a local (very small 1 man operation) gun store and started chatting up the owner, to see if he might know anyone who would be interested in the hammer I couldn't use. We eventually became great buddies, and I passed on my knowledge of detail stripping 1911's. He had only ever taken them down for cleaning, never down to bare frame.

Eventually, this shop owner ended up buying that very 1911 from me. He was looking for a "shop gun" that he wouldn't be afraid to knock around, and knowing its pedigree he made me an offer that I felt was reasonable. He then carried that 1911 every day the shop was open for a number of years. Last I saw it, he had gotten its tired old bluing (which was mostly gone at this point) duracoated in this really awesome titanium grey color.

I'll have to stop in and check up on it soon.:oldglory:

S&W model 626 .357 magnum. Beautiful firearm. Followed that with a brace of .36 old navy percussion revolvers. Currently carry a S&W 6906 as a primary and a Beretta 84BB as a secondary.
