Short of buying a camper shell, cap or tonneau cover, how to you keep gear dry in the bed while traveling?

Any sort of product for occasional use?

I suggest to you-put all your gear in black garbage bags when you travel. Do that for 5 years then get a canopy. It will feel like you got a brand new truck. Less stress less work it's like winning the lotto!! Okay thats what I did. 2012 Tacoma and when my wife and I became LFP we needed to put our dogs in kennels in the back and all of our stuff in the back. So I finally sucked it up and got a leer canopy with a Thule rack and cargo basket for the summer and we picked up a Thule cargo box for free from a family member for the winter months.

Canopy, fitted seat covers, OBA with self leveling air bags, 100w solar, dual Rhino Rack Pioneer platforms, side & rear LED work/FU lights, CB, cell booster. 7x16 cargo conversion, 3" lift, 7'x6.5' fold down aluminum rear deck.
There are different types of storage boxes that can be used. Military medical supply boxes work and are relatively cheap. Just remember to check the gasket before use.

I remember a coworker driving me and luggage home in a rain storm once. I was worried that my bags would get wet and he said "Don't worry, I drive too fast for the rain to get to it." He was right. Just drive fast! :p

That's what I would tell my wife when I was lazy and didn't want to put stuff in bags. Then about an hour down the road and it started raining I would t even make eye contact. I wouldn't even say a word. She would be burning holes in the side of my head and I would just pull over and deal with everything so she would be happy.
