Dude there is 5 ecoboost to 1 Tacoma on the road and a ton of them have high miles. The 3.5 ecoboost is just as reliable as this Tacoma is. The difference is it has balls it shifts correctly has more room and payload. Do I need to keep going?

Isn't there a plastic tank you can add fluid to?

And at around the same fuel mileage as well. Some report lower and some report up to the 20 mpg consistently. And as you said...all with a great powerband. As an aside I will say there is a great aftermarket for that motor as well.

No need to keep going, but I think you need to take your 3.5L pussy tacoma and go get a a big dick 3.5L ecoboost ford.

I had a 3rd gen, but decided to abandon ship after I had it for just over a year. I was accustomed to my 2nd gen with the 4.0L and the 5-speed. I just couldn't get used to the gear hunting at highway speeds (75+ here in NM). My younger bro has a '15 4Runner and that thing runs like silk on the highway, so I traded my TRDOR for a 2016 4Runner Limited. So much better build quality and no more gear hunting. I think I'll be keeping the 4Runner for a long time to come.

That would be 6800 lbs for the 2WD only because it is 300lbs lighter.
Apples and apples... the towing capacity is the same.
In the end, there is no replacement for displacement if you tow often. That 3.5 will have to work harder to tow the same load reducing the life span of the engine if you tow a lot. That's just common sense. If you're not towing too much very often, I'm sure the gen 3 is a great truck... once they fix the transmission shift points.

Yes, but there is no radiator cap. If the hose disconnects or becomes clogged for whatever reason, you're fucked. There's not an easy way to tell if the radiator has coolant besides a plastic tank.

WOW, this thread went bonkers... :sadviolin::goingcrazy:. Anyway OP, I had a similar situation I have described in other threads. No need whip it out and measure different brands vs each other, it is what you the buyer wants. I narrowed it down to the Tacoma 4-door and I wanted a MT. The new truck vs used, 2015 in my case; gave better financing, peace of mind, better warranty and for only a few grand more. The few grand was a no-brainer in my situation. Overall, I only have ~2700mi, but I have never experienced any issues mentioned here and LOVE my truck. Test drive both and make a educated decision, it is your truck.

    Cheers,

I own both trucks and I still choose the Tacoma for reliability over Ford. I had a 2005 with the 5.4 and it was constantly in the shop. New engine at 175k, 4 coil packs 20k miles later, rear end had to get rebuilt at 200k, throttle body had to get replaced at 210k. That's just what I can remember getting replaced. After sinking over $10k in repairs, I'm very skeptical on F-150 reliability. I ended up getting the 2013 for a good deal and also needed a full size for contracting.
