So I carried a canoe on top of my truck this summer. I padded it down where it was touching the roof of my cab to keep it from wearing down the paint. I was cleaning my truck today and noticed that it actually rubbed the paint down to the bare steel. There are a couple places it rubbed. the "spot" if you can call it that is 1/4" by 3" with the center being bare steel.

    My question:

What is the best way to take care of this problem and repair the paint back to its original condition? and is there an all in one kit that can do this?

Also what is the best place to get the exact color of my truck (magnetic grey metallic)

A reputable Paint shop is your best bet for a solid repair job. No, you're not gonna find a all-in-one kit to fix it.

x2 Take it to a reputable paint shop

And I wouldn't trust the "Paint-and-Primer," "All-in-One," "touch-up" products found on eBay. They CAN be good for really small chips and dings, but I've heard and read bad reviews about the color-matching (I can attest to this, personally), durability, and quality when used on a large area like the surface you described. Then there's the sanding, and the next coat, and the......

It's worth the money and time to just let the professional do it.

Wash truck with a product stripping soap
    Clay bar
Clean area with isopropyl alcohol diluted with water.
    Paint with touch up paint
Do this all over again in the future if the paint doesnt dry level with the other paint.
Let sit for 60-90 days to let paint cure.
Prep area for wet sanding to get all paint surfaces level
Then do paint correction with DA Polisher to repair marring from the wet sanding

There is no all in one kit really, its a lot of steps and a lot of prep with patience. Be VERY careful with clear coated colors on the wet sanding.

Take the time to research it, there is a lot of info on detailing forums. I'd try out doing some serious paint repair since its on the roof and really won't be seen if you mess up. Helps you learn down the road if you need to do a fix in a more noticable area.

If its on the roof really just needs to be cleaned very well and touch up painted to prevent rust. Doesnt need to be pretty.

Not sure why you would need the roof of the truck to look perfect. No one sees it, and if you carry anything on the roof regularly it will happen again. I'd just paint it and be done with it. Just something to prevent rusting.

If you do carry things up there a lot I would look into Line-X too. Just curious how much it would be to do the roof. Might be as much as your repaint job but it would be a permanent fix rather than something that would get messed up again.
