So I got my hands on a 2001 Regular Cab Tacoma yesterday for super cheap. I did not get rid of my third gen, the title is a joke. Its not the prettiest looking truck in the world, nothing that won't buff out! It has an exhaust leak with a pretty decent size hole in the pipe. Its before the muffler. I got exhaust tape from the store and two exhaust clamps were ordered.

These are the exhaust clamps I ordered.

I am going to wrap the pipe with the exhaust tape and then put a clamp (possibly two) over the tape to cover the hole. So what I am getting at is will this work? Any other ideas? I might be able to find a buddy to help me weld something, but that is my last resort.

Probably cheaper to just chop that part off and weld a new section of pipe in place IMO. Way less work too

I believe it would be easier and less of a pain to just replace the pipe, might look on craigslist or something similar for a used exhaust.

Looks like it would be a pretty inexpensive repair at a muffler shop. You won't be happy with that tape.

That's what I did, just for looks. Looks awesome, cost 150 bucks. Hated looking at that rusted POS and had a TRD tip put on

Yea I guess it wont be too bad to throw a new OEM exhaust on the thing, but even at 150 bucks that would be more then what I paid for the thing! Its gonna be the beater truck to get back and forth to work. I was just going for a simple, quick and cheap repair just to pass inspection in PA.

I doubt the tape will last. Replacing eliminates a safety problem if you sit with engine running.

A good family friend hooked it up. I always told them that if they wanna get rid of the truck, let me know and i'd buy it from them. Well they no longer wanted it cause it failed inspection due to the exhaust leak and parted ways with it. It'll be saving me from wear and tear on my 16' taco. I got over 50k in miles on the 16' already.
