My first new auto purchase of my life :|

Really excited to keep this Tacoma forever and turn it into beast of machine that can rip across the US off road trails.

Only regret is that now I have a car payment for the first time in my 27 years of life. Oh well. Slave to the salary for a few years - guess i'll have to get used to it.

Given my position as a telecommunications analyst and someone who has also completed multiple obstacle course races and ran 20 miles a day cross country in high school and college --

My interest is to build it up as an overland, race, search and rescue, communications, survey/recon vehicle. Probably going to spend about $1500 in upgrades a month for the next 12 months or so until I'm comfortable. Then i'll probably take it across the US for 6 months.

It's funny because i've never driven off road in my life except when I went to Burning Man 3 times and drove heavy equipment and semi trucks lol.

Nice truck! That is a generous budget you have, too. Looking forward to a build thread.

thanks -- barely even signed up for the site a few weeks ago. I have to figure out my way around the forums - and then I have to hope work is slow enough for me to find time to post - but more than anything TW is best research tool for sure!

Welcome to TW, nice truck congrats and good luck with it. Good to keep your sense of humor around these parts .....

Spending $15 hundy a month on your truck.. well that's pretty impressive. Prolly going to need that job you have there ... unless you can work from "home". Just sayin....

You can probably do very well with your truck and not have to go all that far but $18K in upgrades... that is definitely doable. Re"search" is your friend.

Tell me about it.... when I was 27 and had an excellent job in Comp Sci.. I was driving a POS Chevy V6 van with 4 captains chairs and a 4 speed manual on the floor... that was actually fun to drive.

Got it for camping cause not enough money to hotel it... best thing that ever happened to me. We're still camping out, hate hotels and food from restaurants...I actually prefer shitting in an out hose to a motel bathroom.... yuk.. We moved on to 4wd and camping out. Yes indeedy good choice OP.

Was wondering the same thing. I'll have to ask the guy who has one, he always parks his SAR rig near the target I go to. He also has faux satellite dishes to search for aliens and all that as well as stuff for storm chasing. It's a serious niche bro.
