I got great money for it and I miss it! I'm now looking into buying a 2017 TRD sport and I'm reading about the transmission issues, When I was looking into the 2014 the problems then were the drivetrain vibration issues but my truck was fine.

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks, Jay

Get the Manual on the 2017 and you will avoid all the hunting the Auto does.

Take it for a test drive. Some people have 'issues', others are fine.

Go buy a truck. Most of the issues are fixable.

Make sure you take a LONG test drive and go over with a fine tooth comb. Lots of complaints on the third gens.

Mine is perfectly fine, shifts about what I would expect of a 6 speed transmission. Top 2 gears are for overdrive, some people don't understand that I guess.

First question to ask yourself is, Do you need a truck now or in the next two years?
If that´s a NO, then I would suggest you wait and see what Ford has to offer on the Ranger.
Even if the Ranger is not what you are looking for, it will introduce competition to the Tacoma, which will help you as a buyer.
Now, if you need a truck right now, then see if you can get the Tacoma you are looking at for an overnight test drive.
I would agree on the manual trans. if that is an option to you.
    Good luck on your search.

Only problem being that you are going to take a bath in depreciation for keeping a vehicle for 2 years in most other vehicles. If you go this route buy something that is already old.

Why is everyone so worried about issues? There are plenty of vehicles that have NO issues such as mine.

These vehicles come with a factory warranty for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Any issues are usually found within a few weeks of taking it off the lot and are fixed by the warranty.

I don't know where all these "transmission issues" come from, but I absolutely love my 2016 and only had very few/rare issues.

True but there are plenty of people who are having issues and the dealers are saying for the most part that the issues are normal, It sounds like the transmission is doing way to much shifting gears just to get an extra mile or two per gallon.

20K on mine the only issue is the tic tic tic in the passenger side dash @ the speaker... man that's annoying but fixable easily....

OP get the manual its a lot of fun to drive. Probably also scare off a lot of folks that would want to drive it as well....like my wife or some one else...
