I have the AVS bugflector 2 on mine, got it to help with the bugs. An added benefit is that it helps me judge the front more precisely, less estimating.

I already scrape my bumper because I couldn't judge the front end.

I back in every time I park, I always have. But I'm still getting used to having a back up camera, never had one. And so far those side lines are fairly accurate when I use it..

The front passenger side is hard to gauge when pulling up to one of those angled parking spots with guard rails

...^^^... I have experimented with "yes" and "no" to this question.

Really need a a nice "glass stick on convex mirror" that could fit in OEM mirror corner.

    But no such animal exists.

Toyota should do a split mirror like tow mirrors on my past 2007 Tundra. I loved those OEM tow mirrors

Have a friend or relative or SO or whatever stand with their knees one inch from the bumper. Get a feel for looking at them and how close they actually are.

Also have them stand at the right passenger corner where you'd miss them but your mirror would hit them.

This sort of thing sinks in after a bit of staring. It'll really help you get your bearings and make all that necessary practice work better in the end

I'm unable to see through your eyes, so I'll describe what I see.

Sitting in the driver seat in normal driving position I see pretty good through the rear view mirror. A vehicle overtaking on either side passes through the slight visual overlap between the rear view and the side mirror. As they continue to overtake and their rear quarter is still in the side mirror, I can directly see their nose through the side window.

If I'm overtaking, the same happens in reverse. They overlap from direct view to side mirror, then overlap from side mirror to rear view.

Never out of view. So I don't really see the need for add ons, and when I've driven rentals with them (built in in some cars) I hated them since they cut down on usable mirror space and made anything in the convex part too small to be useful.

*shrug* Take it for what it's worth. I just hate for folks to spend time/effort/money trying to fix stuff with addons that isn't broken in the first place. :)

All that said above, hauling a trailer you can't see through with your rearview is a whole different thing and not what I'm talking about.

(Note: I still do a shoulder check before a lane change too, mirrors can only say "no" and can't say "yes" as the old saying goes)

    +1

When I was shopping, I asked the sales guy to move a pen down the hood until I couldn't see it any more and then hold it there while I got out to see. It was so close to the leading edge that I ceased to be worried and that got me a pretty good feel.

...^^^... Yep, your assessment is correct
    :)
I think I got spoiled with those Tundra Towing mirrors because they would catch a "sudden & fast approaching vehicle" quickly in my eyes.

I said who would ever want power mirrors, power windows, XM radio, and etc  and now i am hooked on them too. Lol. Getting too soft and whimpy as I get older.

Need to go back to my old 198? Toyota truck with 22R engine and single wall bed and tailgate. Lol. :)

i suppose my perspective is colored by me tending to be the sudden and fast approaching vehicle. Not nearly so much so in the truck as the funcar, but still I tend to be passing far more than I get passed... :D :plane:

AM radio, manual everything, and three-speed on the column. Now THOSE were the days.
