    Hey y'all,

Over the last month or so, I've been constantly rebuilding the HVAC motor in my 05 to try and get it to be quiet. Every time, I get the same thing: quiet for a few days, then super downhill after that. I've tried using different greases (all purpose, dry lithium spray, and Park Tool bike grease) on the motor shafts and it seems that whatever I use it all fails after a few days, likely due to the high RPM and temps of the heater. I always find the old grease dried up inside the housing. I suspect the shafts over the fan cage.

In any case, is there a specific grease any of y'all know might work better? I've read the write ups on rebuilding that fan motor and everyone else seems to be fine with just general purpose grease. I'm thinking maybe this will work? http://m.advanceautoparts.com/p/luc...se-14.5-oz.-10301/7070035-P?searchTerm=grease

If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

Thanks for that P/N. I'd read about different gen fans if I went the route of replacement but didn't know which one was the newer one. May have to do that if it gets even worse.

I'm kinda trying to just limp along for now at least, as I may just end up replacing the whole truck with something more fuel efficient when I eventually move. Haha.

no problem man, yeah if your planning on switching up rides I wouldn't worry about it, not sure if you saw this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/blower-motor-squeek-chirp-on-low-fix.28355/ but when I replaced mine I took the old one apart to see if I could do what he did just for kicks, didn't seem like it was worth the time and effort for something that might only last a couple weeks then start chirping again

Yeah, I saw that and the related threads. The motor did come apart easy enough, and I did everything I could think of (simple green on everything, filled the felt pads with oil, greased the shafts, etc). That's why I was thinking maybe it's just the kind of grease I've been using that's causing it to fail in a matter of days.

yeah I was looking into just fixing it myself, fun little project but the more I read the more it seemed like just a temp fix haha opted for a new blower haha best part is that when I ordered it, some random person singed for it upon delivery and I never received it, so I called Amazon, they shipped me a new one free of charge, well guess what showed up on my door step about a month later. the first one they shipped haha so now I have a back up lol

Too bad you're in Canada, or I'd ask if you wanted to make a deal. Or good I guess, keep from spending money I don't need to. Haha.

I thought the noise is caused by the motor brushes vibrating inside their holders? If the shaft bearings are shot, there isn't much you can do.

the only other thing I could think of is to try a Fan Motor Oil, I use it to oil up belt drive fan motors and around the shaft on direct drive fan motors some times if the shaft is seized and I don't have a replacement motor on hand

Do you have an Amazon link or something? I tried searching it there, but I kept getting results for dielectric grease.

I don't have a link on hand, I would just google it, there's a few options, the one I use I believe its made by Masters, but I think 3 In 1 makes one as well

^I didn't bother with all this and just bought Toyota OEM 87103-04043 blower. It's been quiet for 3 winters so far. There's a further updated 87103-04044 part available now. Also replaced the GM blower resistor with the updated Denso part at the same time as a preventative measure. The GM resistor has a poorly-fitting connector known to cause arc'ing and burns.

I'm familiar with the resistor issues; my plug is burnt but it hasn't acted up in a couple years, knock on wood. I found the 44 version of the motor for $55 used, so if I can't salvage my old one I might try a used one first.

As a new-bee to 2nd gen Tacos I have never had one apart, however if it uses sintered bronze bearings as most do then the only solution is to replace the bearings or get a new motor. "Oil-filled" sintered bronze bearings are quite porous and "filled" with oil when made (high pressure injection)--that works great as long as the bore in contact with the motor shaft remains somewhat porous; however in extended service, and once the bore glazes over, the "filled oil" can no longer escape and lubricate the contact surfaces.

Because the bore is glazed the grease you have been using is only a temporary solution--'til it is spun out. With larger bore "self-lubricating" bearings it is often possible to break the glaze and coax a bit more life from them, but with small bores that is not feasible...

Krytox grease will probably be the best. Big bucks but worth it.

Might as well buy it from Toyota of Dallas / TRDParts4U for less: http://parts.toyotaofdallas.com/oem-parts/toyota-blower-motor-8710304044
