Thinking about purchasing some new shocks for my '04 tacoma (front and rear).

    Any suggestions?

I've been looking at the Bilstein 5100s

Any bilstein are good. If you want to spend little $ the skyjacker or monroe

I just did the 5100's mounted with OME springs on a 99 Tacoma. Low Range Ofrroad has it as a package deal, so you don't have to have a shop switch the springs, or rent a compressor (i.e. bolt in). Make sure you also buy new lower nuts and bolts from Toyota, they are all 1-time use hardware. I think Low Range had them when I bought the shocks for a reasonable price.

Ive always reused the lower bolt and nut. Threads dont strech out like on head bolts

I double checked the service manual and you're right, Toyota calls them out as reusable. Oddly enough they consider the lower shock bushing and the top shock mounting nut as non-resuable.
I choose to replace them because sometimes you have to drive the bolt out, which scours the threads up on the bolt. Anything down there gets the hell beat out of it from road grit and rocks, so I figure I'm paying myself forward next time I have to take that bolt out.

I had some BFG long trail TAs on my old prerunner (stock height). They worked great on road. Much better than the rugged fails
