well, if we're lucky, he'll actually be put on meds this time. he's been off his meds since it first happened, but recently starting having another episode at the end of summer. he was on a 5150 previously but got out with help of a lawyer.

this is why millions spend on gun legislation is dumb when it could be spent on the mentally ill and criminal deterrent programs.

You live in SF? If so, don't count on meds.

Been there, done that. Just 3 years ago, even. The complete fucking failure of SFPD and SF mental health dept. left my sister in fear of her life, left me to move in with her and sleeping on her couch for a month with a handgun, and them allowing a raging bipolar to run around and commit 5 felonies in 3 weeks including felony assault, grand theft, and a DUI hit and run with a stolen car and they never once put him in jail or under a doctors care and on medication.

Every single court date was a joke. They did nothing. SF in their grand wisdom doesn't give 2 fucks about 5150s.

It's a disaster. Literally the worst failure of any government and law enforcement I've ever seen, and it happened half a dozen times.

The same thing over and over and over.

Fortunately no, we're in small town Milpitas, compared to Oakland or SFPD scanner traffic, Milpitas is like "is everyone on a lunch break?"

That really sucks, I'm glad you and your sister is safe. I always say family and friends first.

Though this time it's family causing the :crapstorm:.

I know how it goes. I hope he gets the help he needs. So glad it isn't in SF.

My aunt is a schizophrenic and it's really a horrible thing. I'll keep y'all in my thoughts. :(

That's one thing I really don't understand about SF. It's one thing to not call immigration customs enforcement, but it's completely different to make sure someone is brought to justice or get treated when they're crazy or intentionally going to do harm.

It was an eye opening experience, and the first time I've ever been in a situation to use a firearm defensively.

I would much prefer never to have to consider doing so. Life changing event, and I didn't even pull a trigger. Can't imagine what it would be like had I been forced to do so.

Yeah, nobody tells you how a rush of adrenaline can mess up your groupings. Having to sleep in a situation where you'd want to have a gun next to you is never any good.

    It was crazy.

Never forget the sound of foot steps on the roof above me. Or them stopping and a head popping down and looking at me through the glass slider on the balcony.

If he'd decided to get off the roof and onto the balcony, I'd have had to draw on him, and he was crazy as a shithouse rat.

It's something I've never had a problem with doing if it needed to be done, and mentally and emotionally I don't have a problem following through with it to a fatal end. But, being in that situation where there is a 50/50 chance, holy fuck.

Makes me appreciate service members and LEO all the more. It's a mind fuck.

As a practical person, I can't deny the versatility of the minivan. But I'd be lying if I said my testicles didn't shrink a little every time I get behind that wheel.

Can't carry an 18' ladder from the hardware store any other way. Guess I could have strapped it to this.

The new camper will definitely have a roof rack.
