2015 Tacoma Entune (NO JBL) Frequency Response?

I curious about the frequency response on the Entune Plus head unit in my 2015 Tacoma.

I upgraded the audio system with 5 channel amp, and all new speakers, running Speedwire to the Rockford Fosgate amp for hi level inputs. most everything sounds good, but im getting really "mushy" bass, and not getting any really hard hitting low frequencies. Im thinking that maybe its the

$230 Rockford P3SD4-10 Punch P3S 10" 4-Ohm DVC Shallow Subwoofer

Rockford P3SD4-10 sub, and was thinking about upgrading the JL Audio 10TW3-D4 instead.

Any thoughts on the frequency response output before i upgrade the sub?

it outputs flat as far as some of us have tested

why not try test tones to see where things are going bad?

 

would you say 20-20K then?

 

Whats the details on the subwoofer box? sealed or ported? volume? Was it custom made for your sub or just made to fit in our trucks?

Also, what have you been using for music? poor quality MP3s and poor streaming sources can make music sound bad. Also, Bluetooth streaming doesn't sound as good as USB or AUX.

Try playing a CD with some good low notes and see how it sounds.

 

sealed fiberglass box .58cuft. built for the truck, and for either the JL or the RF sub at that CU FT. box is sealed very tight, and i have plenty of power going to the sub.

i have listened to all kinds of CD's, (metal, rap , 90's hip hop) some new some old. I even have some "old school bass" cd's from the 90's and they seem to just not hit low and hard.

i have just assumed that the stock head unit wasnt responding to the low frequencies very well.

 

the sealed box is the problem. your F3 is around 45Hz. going ported [and twice the box size] would see an F3 of 36Hz and probably get back that low bass you miss

Sorry, i just double checked, and the box is .95 cu ft. Totally my mistake on that one, as i was thinking of something else when i typed it

 

you may be able to port that enclosure. it's almost big enough [specs call for 1cu ft]. you'd need to model the enclosure and sub to get the port size correct.

you'll still have an F3 of 36Hz+. not sure how low you are trying to go but physical limitations are going to prevent you from going crazy

 

It's just "mushy" sounding. So I'm thinking of either replacing the head unit to get pre-outs and more realistic fine tuning. Or possibly replacing the sub with the JL audio 10TW3-D4.

The issue i am having with replacing the head unit is simply the cost of it all. If i get a new one, i want something nice, so its going to be $600 for the HU and then $250 for all the extras for the install. and i typically only keep a car/truck about 2 years... so if i dive deeper in, the wife is going to "suggest" that I keep the truck a little longer

 

well it is firing into a hard plastic seat barely inches away. i don't think the head unit is the issue here.

might be your tuning or just how that sub sounds at those frequencies. are you using bass boost of any kind?

 

Replaced the factory HU with a Kenwoood DDX-9903S and the system sounds amazing now. The sub is getting the lows that i expected from it

 

The factory head unit has poor base response. For others future reference, replacing the head unit is one option, another would be to run an specialized amp designed to be run on OEM head units that has controls to fill in the base EQ, like the AudioControl LC-4.800:

Another option is to run a digital signal processor before the amp.
