So I was screwing around in DV this weekend and Sunday morning I was crossing over Steel pass when shit hit the fan. I was driving through a smooth section of road, I don't know if I was looking at the mountains or looking at my GPS or what but I hear a loud thud, I lose steering and 50ft later a whomp, whomp, whomp noise starts coming from the driver side wheel. I figured I clipped a rock on the side of the trail and I lost the bead on the tire. I jump to change it and see the wheel cocked in the well and immediately started hoping the tie rod snapped.....came around looked at the tie rod and it was solid and I then realized I broke the spindle and I was fucked. I attempted to homie-rig up some stability to limp down to the hot springs but there was too much going on with the spindle broken.

I am always ready to walk out if I have a breakdown so I packed up tent, sleeping bag, water, food and started hoofing it down to the hot springs. I made it 9 miles and started hearing a motor approaching. Turned out it was a good samaritan couple in a FJ leaving the hot springs and coming over Steel Pass. They made some room for me and they gave me a ride to Bishop. With it being Sunday no auto shops/towing shops are open. I was going to talk to one Monday morning and look into flat-bedding it out, but a buddy back in Socal is willing to give a lift back up next weekend after I source replacement parts.

I jacked up the front end a little to take the weight off the LCA uniball. Bag packed and ready to go, sad to leave it out there all fucked up.

So @goblue82, I've got two questions since this happened to you a couple weeks ago.

Where did you source the spindle? I'm going to start looking around junk yards tomorrow. There were a couple of tacomas in local junk yards, hopefully I can find one quickly.

What did you do about the ABS wire?

@glorifiedwelder usually has pre TC gussetted spindles in stock ready to go, I believe his shop is in Valencia.

Just a thought, but do you have a new bolt from UCA to spindle? That one looks bent.
Greg respek for shooting out there

It'll be just fine on Steel Pass for a week. Low traffic and no sleaze.

Don't think I can do anything useful from here, but hope it works out well soon!

The bolt for those icons isn't like camburg or total chaos. It's a proprietary 12pt bolt that's threads into the the ball joint taper adapter/uniball missalignment spacer. The bolt won't be bent but the taper adapter could be. I think he'll still be able to make it out even if it's bent

Edit: this post was a joke in reference to the quoted above. Not in anyway trying to take away from the issue at hand. Hope you guys can get it fixed and get the truck back home. Extra set of hands available if you need them.
