    Certificates are like a warranty for the tire. To me- if there is an issue with a tire, you know quickly, and there is a mfr warranty.

    Otherwise, if a tire fails- not under warranty- in the first 20-30k miles (whatever the cert says) the additional certificate will replace the tire.

    Here is the rub- you must buy 4 certificates- one for each tire. Cost is typically 18.00- 30.00 PER tire.

    In the outside chance my tire fails, outside of waranty, I would just buy a new tire. But that has never happened to me.

    Hope this helps! Any one else feel free to chime in...

    Hmmmmmm that is an interesting piece of information that I wasn't aware of. Hankook has a 50,000 mile warranty on my Dynapros so I guess I never thought about that. I suppose I'll take the risks of not buying over $100 in certifications for all my tires. I suppose if something's gonna happen, it'll happen

    That's pretty much it. Insurance for your tires. If a tire fails (for any reason, including road hazard damage, offroading is included) you get a new tire. For each new tire you have the option to buy a new certificate for it. The other 3 certificates you have will not cover the new tire, they take down serial numbers.

    I like the certificates and have used them pretty extensively.

    And you're right you might as well just buy a new tire at that price

    Oh wow I was sure it wouldn't have included offroad use. How much did they cost for you?

    @JWL

    Above from @Sandman614 is correct. My statement is correct too. It comes down to your preference.

    Just be certain to read the certificate on discount tire website.

    I know the DT's are tuff- @JimboAnz has them. Cooper st Maxx that @Sandman614 has are also tuff. So are my E rated bfg ko2's.

    Spend more when you buy tires, and not worry about it. Or save money when you buy tires, but buy a new tire IF it fails... out of warranty, for any reason. You choose.

    Personal note- never heard of anyone paying for certs untill I came to TW. But there is a benefit. Either way is good to go. Just understand the fine print first. :thumbsup:

    :rofl:

    If you would have come last night after I did the driver side, I would have done it for free.

    I was beating myself, I hate when that happens. I don't let it get that far often.
