I posted earlier about some idle issues with my truck (2002 2.7 4wd 5spd), here, and had some occasional rough idle and what seemed like stickiness of the old ICV. I got fed up with it and decided to replace it.

Today I flushed the coolant system a couple times, put the new valve on (sure enough the old one was very crusty), and started it up. Immediately it threw a code, so I hooked up a scanner and it kept producing P0505. I'd shut the truck off and try and clear codes, but that didn't work. The engine idled around 1200rpm cold, increasing to about 1500 warm.

Ideas? I used a bit of brake cleaner and scrubbing to clean off the butterfly valve, torqued the bolts on the throttle body properly using a new gasket, checked all the vacuum lines I recently replaced, etc.

Not enough to have a build thread.
Could you give the code definition? Did you accidentally leave a sensor unplugged? Wrong part?

PO505 is the IAC System Idle incorrect

Anytime the idle is incorrect this code will trip unless it is mechanical in my case it did not seem to trip

You did use a Toyota Part ??

Good connection on the electrical plug

coolant hoses and vacuum line hooked up correct ??

    Not kinked closed

All the other vacuum lines connected to the correct spots

None of them old and brittle or cracked ??

What's interesting is the previous ICV had only tripped the code once, and allowed me to reset it, despite exhibiting the same behavior, idling around 1500rpm warm, closer to 1000 cold.

The part I used wasn't Toyota, it was just what I could get my hands on quickly. (I'll look up the brand when I get a chance...)

I triple checked the electrical connector, coolant hoses, torque on the throttle body gasket, and have just put new vacuum hose on. I even had my mechanic go over everything and his thought was that the new valve is probably bad. I'll get in touch with the manufacturer, and see if they'll replace it... I'm curious now if anyone has experience with this sort of thing as an electrical issue, and if so, how I might go about diagnosing it.

I am wondering if the quality control is just that poor your getting more air even when it is closed ??
