Everyone remembers that time I got hit by a drunk driver...

Most people also probably know that I had my bumper removed in November, primarily because it was bent outward and up, preventing the tailgate from opening all the way.

I waited until the adjuster from the drunk guy's insurance company came to look at my truck and take pictures before removing it...

Anyway here's what happened. I had my truck parked in one of the manager's spots right next to the patio at Puck. It was dark out, and my truck was parked right next to the dumpster and the rear entrance typically used by employees...

Anyway, I was on the patio taking a quick break when one of the bouncers came in rubbing his calf/knee saying he'd pretty much kneecapped himself on my twisted rear bumper. I joked that he should sue the drunk guy's insurance for pain and suffering. We had a good laugh about it because in all seriousness, he was fine... He's RAMP-certified bouncer who deals with unruly drunks every weekend. Bumping into a parked truck ain't nothin...

I'm pretty sure this happened before the bouncer kneecapped himself, but another time I backed my truck into one of the parking spaces at my boss's house. There is a fence belonging to the house next with chicken wire on it. I've backed into the space countless times before and it is one of the few scenarios where I can practically back up with my eyes closed and not hit anything because I've done it so much. I did not, however, account for the damaged bumper sticking out like a foot behind my truck, and hit the fence with the bumper without realizing it. A short time later, I pulled out of the parking space and heard a weird noise. I got out to take a look and discovered that the chicken wire had gotten tangled in the bumper and I had actually started to rip it off the wood fence. I untangled the wire from the truck, put it back into place, and nobody ever noticed...

Even more annoying is the right after Butch removed the rear bumper, I found out that Sir Drinks-A-Lot's insurance company was refusing to pay to fix my truck because our stories didn't match. My insurance company, USAA, agreed to pick up the tab. They said they would waive the deductible and not raise my rates, which they did not, and they would take the other insurance company to court. Only problem was USAA's adjuster needed to look at my truck in person now, and they needed the now-removed bumper! I explained the situation, including the bouncer kneecapping himself and not being to open the tailgate, and they said I did not have to the bumper reattached. I still had to drive back to Butch's which is about ten minutes in one direction, to pick up the bumper, and drive another twenty minutes to the Porsche dealer where I was meeting the adjuster to have the truck looked at it. Then, it was back to Butch's to drop off the bumper...

    This was earlier this year...

Seriously, why does an awesome truck like the Tacoma have such a shitty frame?

A bouncer I know at a popular bar/restaurant near the venue where I work owned 2003-2004 DCSB SR5 4x4 with 3.4L/auto. It was red with gray cloth interior and fully loaded. He was the 2nd owner. It was quite beat up and had over 200K miles, but it ran and drove like a dream as to be expected from a Taco. He used it as a work truck and definitely did not go easy on it, but he took very good care of it maintenance wise. A/C was ice cold, heat and all power accessories worked, 4WD works, no weird noises or leaks, etc...

Then it was discovered that the frame was rusted and he was eligible for the frame replacement. The truck was so old and the cost of getting a rental car would have been so high that he just sold it for like $1,500 and bought a 2003-2004 Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0L gas V8 as a replacement.

Sad day, but it just proves that even Tacomas on their last legs are worth a decent amount of money!

Wait a minute. He sold that for $1500 AND it was eligible for a frame replacement? I really wish I was the guy who bought it...

    They still do frame replacements?

How does one check the vin on their truck to see if eligible?

So was Butch the bouncer who is also an insurance agent that has a home made out of chicken wire that is going to court at a Porsche dealership over a knee replacement?

    LOL

Butch is the body guy who owns the shop where I've gotten my Tacoma fixed before...

The bouncer who kneecapped himself works at the bar where I work

The bouncer who got rid of his Tacoma cuz it rusted and bought a used Silverado works at another bar within walking distance of the bar where I work. My coworkers and I are regulars at this other bar

My boss, the GM of the bar where I work, lives in the house where I ripped the chicken wire off the fence

I met the USAA adjuster at a Porsche dealership

    Sorry for the confusion LOL

I've also referred to him as a "Career alcoholic" and "Flatulus Geriatricus Intoxicus, better known as a Drunk Old Fart."
Flatulus Geriatricus Alcoholus (Alcoholic Old Fart) works as well.

I'm talking about a nice day, windows down, driving through a small town or sitting at a red light...

For me, at least since 2012, it has been the 1989 remake of "Once Bitten Twice Shy" by Great White.

Yes, I know it's a long story... I put the important part first. Just tell me what your favorite "crank-it-up" song is if you want. :proposetoast:

English musician Ian Hunter was the original artist and his version (the original) was released in 1975. I did not hear his version until after I'd heard the Great White version. The Ian Hunter version is good and it was a hit in it's time, but it just doesn't have window-rattling The band is currently known as a Jack Russell's Great White. I know I heard the song on the radio numerous times when I was young, but I'd never actually heard it and truly experienced it until fall 2012 when I played the original Saints Row on my friend's xBox for the first time. I heard it once and absolutely loved it, and I knew I'd heard it somewhere before, probably more than once. The song came out the year I was born, and my best guess is I heard it on the radio in my dad's 1993 Blazer (pretty much my entire taste in music in influenced by my dad's taste in music during road trips in that Blazer).

Other people seem to love Once Bitten Twice Shy as well, as it seems to bring them back to their younger days. Most of the people I've talked to were in the range of 10 to 25 years old when the Great White version came out. One time I pulled up into the parking lot of the CVS in Doylestown with the windows down and Great White cranked. The woman in the red Lumina in the next spot over heard me before she saw me, had her windows down, and started doing Jack Russell's original "Once Bitten Twice Shy" hand signals out the window, then gave me a grin as soon right beside her.

So yeah, Once Bitten Twice Shy never gets old for me...

Original 1989 music video. Trivia: Bobbie Brown, famous as the girl from the Warrant song "Cherry Pie" appears prominently in this video.

And in my truck (head unit in this video is the Pioneer single-DIN unit I installed in 2013 but replaced with a Sony touch-screen in 2016; speakers are the same though)...

The boss knows about it. Fence wasn't hers. Fence was nextdoor neighbors. I put it back and he never noticed.

I work as personal assistant, errand runner, and occasional bar-back at a bar/restaurant/music venue called Puck. I got the job because I was friends with the general manager for about 3 years prior to actually getting the job and a regular customer since about a year before she (the current GM) even started working there.

So does anybody work at any kind of restaurant or bar? Bartender, barback, busser, waiter/waitress, bouncer, general manager/assistant manager/bar manager, chef/cook, delivery driver, etc? Full-time or part-time? Doesn't really matter.

BTW I also worked as a pizza delivery driver for an independently-owned pizzeria in the summer of 2015. I quit rather abruptly after a drunk old man ran a stop sign in his Mercedes and clobbered my Tacoma right after my shift ended. In my opinion $5/hour plus tips was not worth my truck getting f***ed up: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...k-drivers-mercedes-justice-was-served.435058/

After a brief 2-week stint at Dunkin Donuts back in 2013, I didn't think I'd ever want to work in a place that served food again. About a year later my friend offered me a part-time job helping her out and it grew from there. I never thought I'd actually somewhat enjoy working at a bar, but it beats the crap out of working retail. Hell will freeze over before I ever work retail!

So yeah, I'm hoping this thread will inspire other service industry folks to talk about their careers and share funny stories. I know I have plenty...

I've encountered everything from a drunk swiping a bag of ice out of the bed of my truck WHILE I WAS DRIVING to a weird locals showing up at open mic nights...

Ask me (almost) anything! And share you stories too!

One of my favorite stories from Puck took place at the Halloween Party in 2014. Met a group of pretty women in their late 20s, including a thick and curvy blonde dressed as a dominatrix. She even had a whip. I approached her, asked if she was supposed to be a dominatrix and honest to God that made her night. Apparently a lot of people had guessed her costume incorrectly, and I was rewarded with a dance and a kiss... Only at Puck...

I worked 2 service industry jobs simultaneously, did the Pizza delivery thing for 2 years and was a Busser for 1 year. Got me through college, i've met some cool people some that i'm still friends with to this day.
Pizza delivery was awesome, I was 19 had a sweet Honda prelude with a system that I loved to drive anyway. I brought people food and they paid me (tipped well too). 2nd job as a busser sucked ass, it was hard work and meh.. tips wise, worked with some awesome people, that's what got me by everyday.
If you work in the service industry it should be mandatory that you watch the movie "Waiting", that movie hit the nail on the head as far as working in a restaurant goes.

    Edit
Funny story, I was out on a delivery, pretty routine, Large pepperoni. Half way there the customer cancels. Ususally we would just bring the pizza back and place it in the warmer to be thrown out at the end of the night (another story). I never do this but I took a single bite of the pizza and immediately after I do my supv. says, "Bring back that large pepperoni, we're going to use it for another order." I panic, the pizza was still fresh so I moved over some cheese and pepperoni to cover it up. No complaints so I guess it worked hahaha:militarypress:

I quit delivering pizzas because I was overworked and underpaid (expected to do more than just deliver pizzas while other employees sat on their ass). Also, the drunk driver hitting me was the straw that broke the camel's back.
