I didn't know it was possible to just run the turbo straight into the sc otherwise I would have done it just to see..

If he dropped $1,200 on that port fueled I'd advise him to send it back and go with the fic and larger primaries.

I was planning to try some e85 as soon as the temps came up but now that's it's right around the corner I'm having second thoughts. My only fail point would be my hoses rotting, everything else is ethanol proof, and I'm sure it's not hard to replace them. I'm really not stocked on dropping my single tank distance from the already staggering 240 miles to 180 either. Sounds like a 32 gal is in my future.

I just swapped my cx turbo for a mamba gtx2863r. Thing is full spool at like 2200 rpm. It doesn't feel nearly as violent as the cx gt35 when the power comes on which is lame but over shadowed by the fact I'm makeing max power 1000 rpms sooner. The only thing I don't like is the sound. It whistles at all rpms and it just sounds tiny.

I loved the way the cx sounded although I think it's attributed to the size difference, not the make.

I went with the cx racing gt30 and love it. Its Chinese but a turbos a turbo especially now with their tolerances matching ours. Sometimes I wonder if a tad smaller would've been better. Got the ball bearing and billet wheel so it spools decent. I want to push more boost too. Got almost 10k miles on the system with no issues boosting 10psi......who would've thought, Turbo Tacomas......lol. The few.....the proud.....

I have the cx GT3071R and it fully spools at 3000, but it doesn't sound like a turbo lol it sounds like a a big vacuum.

Compressor surge sounds f'in awesome. I wouldn't be running a BOV if it didn't come with the CX kit.

Strange flutter......doesn't sound good to me. Its not really surge because it's not under boost. I'm all for the BOV. They definitely don't hurt other than you lose some charge pressure but you lose a lot of it anyway from flutter. I love my BOV! It just adds to the choo choo sounds.....

I don't have a BOV and I also don't have any shaft play so I dunno... The surge noise sounds epic as well so I think I'm no BOV for now

You'll get flutter whether you have a BOV or not.....

I thought the purpose of a BOV was to relieve any pressure that would otherwise cause surge?

I honestly don't care for surge, flutter or bov sounds. I use a bov and I don't see any reason not to although you still get plenty of surge/flutter at lost boost using one unless it's a top dollar unit unlike my cx $50 special.

I think the gt2863r is plenty for this engine. It's good to a little over 400 cfm iirc. You could definitely pump this engine up to need the larger 30 series though, no doubt. If/when I upgrade to a 4 door 1st gen and inevitably decide to turbo I'll either go 2867 or 3076. From what I've read people are getting 400-500 awhp with the gtx2867r on their lancers.

Its relieves the high pressure but won't blow off at lower levels so it keeps some charge in the pipes. Low boost it won't activate, but does under higher loads....

yea. Totally do able. I thought of doing it but again. not worth it on this motor without a MAJOR build up. Be cool to do 8 psi out of the blower and 10-12 our of a turbo. Be about 25-30psi total compounded.

    Also.

Compressor surge is terrible for your turbo..Get a better BOV.

And Brice...GET A BOV! Jesus haha you need it. Not running a diesel..

No. thats from a shitty BOV or too high a spring pressure.

Watch the vid our good friend Tor posted.

    Good vid....

I happen to like my $40 "HKS" BOV....lol. Guess a true 2 stage bov youd get very minumal flutter. But screw a $300 bov. I can live with low pressure flutter. Surge is bad.....mmmm mmmmkay.

I hear ya. You well know the two schools on BOVs........I voted for them because I think it does prevent damage. And it maybe something to consider upgrading in the future. I figure most of your damaging surge is on higher boost levels but you're right. Anytime that flutters it's putting back pressure on your wheel shaft and everything that accompanies.
