96 model, when my Grandaddy had it, every time he was hooked to his four wheeler trailer and put the truck in reverse (5 speed manual) the gauge cluster would go out. Every time we found a fuse in the cab panel blown. He started keeping extra fuses. We finally disconnected the reverse switch so now no reverse lights but no more blown fuses either. Well now I'm about to get it and i want reverse lights. Could bad wiring on the trailer cause this?

Just went through a very similar situation with my 2004. Turned out to be the trailer wiring T harness. It was a Hopkins. Replacing it with a Curt unit. This time I will be coating the wire entry points with silicone to hopefully make it last.... Somewhere I saw a fix memo about the little "splitter" box, but I need trailer lights and no time or patience to open it up and fix it.
Interested to hear of any other methods to seal / install this T harness so it lasts.

    Thank you

The thing is that the trailer lights still work as they should on other trailers jus blows a fuse with that trailer and in reverse. So that makes me think the t harness ain't hurt. But i could be wrong.

I had the same situation. Trailer lights ok. Dash and running lights out. Blown fuse (repeatedly) can't remember which one.
