My 17 TRD OR has had no problems. Shifts fine. Though yesterday I finally heard the howling that people have been talking about. But that's a very cheap fix.

I think he's referring to the LCA howling (plastic plugs or tape over the holes)

    A few minor things...
I bought a 2016 TRD sport with 12 miles on it. I got the rear axle U-Bolts snugged, I greased the driveshafts myself, and after 500 miles I got the ATF checked. It was 1.5 (quarts or Liters, I don't remember) low and they filled it. They reflashed the ECU. Later, the Software update for the transmission came out. I brought it back with around 10,000 miles and had them do it while they did an oil change (and whatever else they did).

The new V6 needs to rev higher than the old 4.0L. There's science that I can go into about this but for now I'll save you the details. Atkinsons cycle and displacement.

The transmission works as I expect an automatic to work with a V6 in a truck. It does jump, but I know that the engine can't sit at 1500RPM at 70mph climbing a hill. i'm a realist.

I love my truck. I owned a few WRXs and an Audi A6 2.7T. Loved them all, but the truck is my favorite.

Its quiet, the stock sound system is miles better than anything in a subaru, it get's about the same gas mileage as my WRX got (if i didn't touch the gas I could get 27 HWY, I averaged 19.7 over 36k miles)

It tows my 24' pontoon boat without a problem. It tows it with 5 people in it and a bed full of coolers and beach bags.

I love it and look forwards to many, many miles in it.

I have a '17 with just under 5k on it. Zero issues other than the radio.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .
FWIW ... approaching 10,000 miles and about 10 months old and this 2016 is becoming my favorite truck of the last 10 or 12 Toyota trucks.

It has not been into the shop yet and only services are my 3 oil & filter changes done by me. Need to take it in soon for service & TSB's.

FWIW .. I do best with mileage, vehicle performance & control when I use "S Mode" in transmission and don't allow it to go into overdrive on a hill at 1,500 RPMs.

I save 6th for flat highway and don't use 5th unless necessary either.

IMO ... these OD gears are for EPA mileage and are not needed in city driving.

Love this truck and just now learning its' habits and how to drive it now.
Anxious to see how it drives after first service.
