    Hi all!

I'm new here and not a Tacoma owner (yet). My Jeep was recently rear ended and it's time for me to move on.

I've decided I want to get a 2014/15 Tacoma TRD Off Road and there are several for me to choose from. One thing I'm looking for is the power outlet in the bed of the truck (for blenders at tailgate time, etc.) but I noticed it only comes on certain trucks. One of the TRD Off Roads that I am looking at doesn't have it installed from the factory and I was wondering if it was something I could add after the fact.

    Thoughts?

Thanks for your help! (I did search on the forums, but wasn't able to find any information)

    John

If it doesn't have the bed plug it's not a TRD Off Road or TRD Sport.

That plug is standard on the Offroad and Sport models, it's possible it was missed during assembly but I would guess it's more likely somebody slapped a sticker on the bedside. I'd check for other package items that are "missing".

For the Off Road some of the obvious: tow package, locker, ATRAC, front skid plate, front recovery hook, inverter with AC outlet in bed, sportier bolstered seats

Bilstein shocks aren't exactly a garuntee it's a TRD package truck.

the TRD a/c bed outlet is powered by a 400 watt inverter, which is ok, but not superb - it won't run a lot of power tools, just check your blender for its power requirements - if you get a truck without the bed outlet, you can always add a beefier inverter (1000 watts perhaps), to power bigger devices. But beware a TRD (sport or offroad) that doesn't have the outlet, or other trappings of the TRD packages as other posters have mentioned. It probably isn't an authentic TRD!

I just powered a Dewalt angle grinder with cutting wheel to cut a padlock with it. Rocked it like a champ.

I have the same question, can you install an Ac outlet to an SR5? What parts do you need from factory and what can you buy to make it better than a stock Ac outlet set up? Thanks

It was standard on my TRD Off Road.

FWIW I have it on my '09 TRD Sport, though to be honest I am at a loss as to what I might ever need it for--a 30 A (or more) 12 VDC source back there would be more useful for anything I might do. You can get a 400 W inverter for $20...

if you find a blender that runs on 400 watts, you better bring some precrushed ice. Seriously though, its useless. I thought it was cool when i bought it, but it has limited use. Lights, tv's, charging batteries. The stuff that would be cool to do with it, coffee makers, blenders, etc, you cant.

Hmm... Has anyone replaced the factory inverter with a larger inverter? One that is big enough for what ever you would use for camping or work.

Where is the factory inverter located?

stock is located under your armrest console. If you end up replacing, i would make sure the stock wire is large enough to handle the additional load (most likely not)

I would have a concern that the factory wiring for the inverter would not be adequate for a larger inverter.
