Newbie here. Mostly lurking. Thanks for all the info. I'm thinking of dippin the grille. I would like emblem to stay chrome. Did you remove the emblem or peel it afterward?

I'd remove it as its so easy to do. Reach behind for the two little clips and squeeze them while pulling lightly down and out. Pops back in the same way.

I completely dissembled my grill and sprayed it off the truck, left the trim ring and emblem chrome.

If you go that route be careful with the tabs they break easily.

yep, remove grill and bezel, remove emblem from grill as stated above, put at least 6 total coats (2 very light coats at first) of plastidip on grill and bezel, then paint/dip emblem color of choice (or leave chrome) and then re-assemble. I actually bought someone else's stock grill so I could take my sweet time doing it right, and then once it was ready to go, just removed mine and swapped it for the one I dipped/painted. the swap took 5 mins to remove front grill assembly, 15 mins to CAREFULLY remove tabs for grill/bezel, 5 mins to snap the new one into place and 5 mins to put the whole assembly back in. totally worth it!

    Removing was easier than peeling.

As others have said completely disassemble the grille and emblem. Have a judicious touch with the tabs, they can snap easily. 3.jpg

For those that did the Plasti-dip, do you have to sand the grill first to get some grit for the paint to stick to? Or did you prime it? I have never used Plastidip before and I am going to Home Depot this weekend.

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Do not sand. Thats the whole point of using plastidip, it's temporary and can be undone, it'll stick fine. If you want it permanent then use paint (you'll have to sand).

Any longer term reports on how well it holds up to rock chips, etc?

Had it on my grill and rear bumper caps since new in July, even with WA State winter weather I haven't noticed any chipping or peeling... first time using it and I'm impressed!

I removed mine...just be careful with the clips; slow and gentle and you won't break anything.
