Also agree, the factory tonneau is a quality piece. It's robustly built and engineered. It also fits and works in a matter befitting the $650 the factory charges as an option. Mine leaked a little near the tailgate because I park facing downhill. I think it's more the tailgate than the cover itself.

If you look at the marketplace there's usually somebody looking to sell theirs. The biggest obstacle is that people looking to sell are states away from people looking to buy. I tried to sell mine for a while but can't close the $125-$150 gap of shipping it.

No issues with my cover and no leaks so far. I did hit it with some 303 to keep it looking nice. I would not doubt that it is made by a well known tonneau cover company. The predator steps for example are made by NFab

Moot in your case though since there's not an OEM tonneau option for the longbed (unless that's changed?)

Better is relative, so it's difficult to make a generalized claim. OEM is easier to open and close than the Extang videos I've seen. Potential buyers should fairly evaluate their options against their needs/usage and figure out which option best suits their needs.

As to cheaper; if getting it with the truck the OEM tonneau is (was) $579 invoice or $650 MSRP. Contrast to $840+ for the Extang

considering how the SB tonneau works and looks like.. im not impressed.. im glad it didnt come in a LB option.. having to lose that extra foot and a half of bed space due to the last fold being bolted down flat makes it not worth it..

just the sheer people selling factory tonneau covers tells you that the design sucks, people are getting rid of them to go aftermarket.

aftermarket is the way to go.. i got a bakflip g2 which folds up all the way with full use of the truck bed and i bought it for 680 locally.

Having owned both the OEM (on now) and a Bakflip G2, I have to say that the Bakflip is much nicer in almost every way, especially aesthetics. Its also easier to operate and folders all the way up. If I hadn't just bought wheels, tires, and a suspension lift this week, I'd be looking to replace the factory with the Bakflip for sure. That said, the factory cover does seem to get the job done. Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust it so that it sits properly on the bedrails? Mine seems to stick up in a few spots. Wondering it that screw near the front might be a tensioner of some type?

My dealership sells the Undercover Flex and I got them to throw it in on the deal when I bought the truck. It's a nice cover and I never have any problems with water, the brackets that mount it have a channel that runs the entire length of the bed and covers the bed rails completely so you cant use them. This is a double edged sword, on the one hand the brackets have a rain channel that funnels any water that gets past the seals out tubes in the front (requires drilling out the factory drain holes a little) which keeps the bed dry. But not being able to use the tie down cleats kinda sucks. I've been meaning to get some D-rings like are used in the bed and take it off and put some under the mounting bolts so I can use them if I need to carry anything but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Neat, that's changed since September then. The tonneau available on the LB's at that time was a port install aftermarket.

@iridebikes The bolt is just a lockdown. They could as easily have put a latch there but likely used a bolt for safety (liability lawsuit defense). I've not looked to see if the posts or latches have any adjustability.

That bolt comes out in thirty seconds and the whole thing lifts right off. Reinstallation takes about the same amount of time. I keep a 12mm 1/4" drive socket & wrench in an underseat compartment.

Each to their own I guess, I looked at the Bakflip G2 and hated the additional rails and hardware. The flip up at the front is nice enough, but I so rarely need the front end of the bed above the rails that removing the tonneau has never been an issue for me.

I'm quite happy with my OEM tonneau.

(and as for lots of people selling, it seems every one of them gets bought by someone else... not like they sit unsold for a long time unless priced poorly)

I love the OEM tonneau on my DCLB OR. It's overbuilt, doesn't leak and it pops on and off easily. My truck was build this past Dec and it was factory installed

You have no idea what you're talking about.
Here is the OEM tonneau cover on my LB and it's rock solid.

you are correct, but at the time when i bought my 17, for some reason they said it didnt offer it for the LB.. but thats besides the point... you dont get a long bed then get a cover on it just to loose another 18 inches of bed space... sure it looks solid, thick.. but so does my bakflip g2. its easier to use, lighter and flips up all the way in a jiffy... dont need to remove anything.

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
i have one for sale, im in bham. ill meet you at the GA line this weekend. $500 and we swap rails.

but hey if you like it, all the power to you.. i just see that it limits the function of the bed which is a red flag for me.

not true. the reason people are selling them is because dealers order them on every optioned truck. u basically cant get a trd off road without one. and everyone doesnt need or want one like people with bed racks or caps. anyway they are very well made. and they dont leak at all if you close the gate first, then the tonneau. then click both sides down again on the rear piece

The OEM tonneau is made by ASC. They only deal with manufactures and their parts cannot be purchased new in the aftermarket. Dealer sourcing and secondary market are the only way to get the factory tonneau. The factory optioning of the tonneau is pretty random, but a full 30% or more of the trucks sold have to come with it because it is a part of the configuration Toyota used for the EPA rating.

About the factory tonneau for LB trucks, it wasn't available for the first 6 or 8 months of production and was even rumored to have been nixed entirely for a while.
