    Hey all.

I had a friend lose his tailgate to theft last weekend so I decided to search the Internet for a locking type hose clamp deal that I could wrap around the hinge area of my tailgate to help prevent theft. This one looks pretty good as the piece that you tighten the clamp down with actually comes off so the thief can't use a screwdriver on to loosen the clamp and still take your tailgate like you can with a plain old hose clamp. Just thought I'd share this since it's only $6.00 and a new tailgate is a few dollars more than this clamp. Take it easy all!!

    Or a locking tailgate? :notsure:

(this is a great budget friendly alternative, though!)

No doubt, it should be a little cheaper for what you're getting. On the other hand, the 20 bucks is moot when you're tailgate gets swiped. But of course the bottom line is if they want it bad enough it's a goner. It's a great option to keep the the snatch and grab crooks moving on to an easier target. I Also have a washer that prevents the easy removal of the gate cable, so they'll be working a a little longer if they go after mine.

I put the clamp on my tail gate. A buddy of mine just had his f-250 platinum tailgate stolen cost insurance 6 Grand for a new one and he had to pay the $500 deductible of course. I thought the 6 bucks was a no brainier. (yes I am aware a Tacoma tailgate is not 6 grand its also not a $70k truck)

So why did he not have it locked??

Ford comes with a locking tailgate and a platinum should lock with the doors using a keyfob.

he was using it during the day and forgot to lock it and his is a 2014 so it doesn't lock with the FOB. he said it was the only time he has ever left it unlocked so i am sure someone was looking at that tailgate for some time waiting for him to leave it unlocked.

Believe it or not, My friend HAD the locking tailgate handle and somehow they still got it?? I'm guessing since the handle is made of plastic they probably just pulled hard enough on it to break the lock?? Just guessing, I dunno. Sucks though to have to buy a whole new tailgate. I'm willing to spend the $6.00 to deter the "Crack-Heads" from snagging mine.

I recently added a pop n lock to mine. I like it so far.. That combined with the locking rear window on my shell leaves my mind at ease

Yeah it has a camera and that ford Step Handle thing. Plus it came un painted and in a million pieces to the shop so they had to paint it and put it together. it was a whole ordeal took like 2 month for him to get a replacement.

...^^^... Great idea that will stop them or really slow them down a lot ... too much hassle to steal it and they go to another easy one.
